CTA organises prayer service for Tibetan self-immolators

DHARAMSHALA: The Department of Religion and Culture of the Central Tibetan Administration today organised a prayer service as a mark of respect for all the Tibetan self-immolators including Lhamo Tashi, who died after immolating himself on 17 September.

The prayer service was presided over by Kasur Kirti Rinpoche, head lama of Kirti monasteries. Over a hundred Tibetans including Tibetan Justice Commissioners, members of the Tibetan Parliament, members of the Kashag, along with officials of the Central Tibetan Administration attended the prayer service.

Lhamo Tashi set himself on fire at Tsoe in Kanlho (incorporated into China’s Gansu Province) in protest against the Chinese government’s repressive policies in Tibet. He has raised slogans calling for the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet and freedom for Tibetans. He became the 131st Tibetan inside Tibet to set himself on fire since 2009.
