Iraqi troops withdraw from army base near ISIS-seized town. (160 km west of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad)

Iraqi army forces withdrew from a military base at the edge of a militants-seized town of Heet in the country's western province of Anbar, leaving the town and the base in the hands of Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) militants, a provincial security source said.

In a "tactical withdrawal" late Sunday night, government troops pulled out of the training base near Heet, some 160 km west of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, and moved to the al-Asad base in Baghdadi area, 40 km northwest of Heet, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The troops also evacuated all their weapons and equipment to al- Asad base, the source said.

On Oct. 2, hundreds of IS militants stormed Heet and seized most of its neighborhoods following fierce clashes with Iraqi security forces and allied Sunni tribesmen.

  2. Islamic State storms town in western Iraq, kills 19 police: officials ...

Islamic State fighters stormed a town in Iraq's western Anbar province on Saturday, killing at least 19 policemen and trapping others inside their headquarters, in the latest attack in the desert region where it controls large amounts of territory, officials said.

Islamic State seized the town of al-Wafa, 45 km (27 miles) west of Anbar's capital Ramadi on Saturday after starting its assault early on Friday.

With the capture of al-Wafa, Islamic State now controls three major towns to the west of Ramadi, including Hit and Kubaisa. Islamic State and government forces have been bogged down in a months-long battle for Ramadi.

Al-Wafa fell in a surprise attack that drew fresh attention to the Iraqi government's struggle to arm Sunni tribes in western Iraq who are fighting Islamic State............http://www.todayonline.com/world/islamic-state-storms-town-western-iraq-kills-19-police-officials
