  1. Indonesia tsunami alert after quake ...

Brief tsunami warnings have been lifted after a 7.3-magnitude earthquake under the Molucca Sea in eastern Indonesia.

The earthquake struck at a depth of 46km (28 miles) northwest of Kota Ternate in the Maluku islands, according to the US Geological Survey.

A 9 cm (3.5 inch) wave reached the island of Jailolo but caused no damage, according to Indonesia's meteorological agency.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

Shortly after the first quake, another measuring 6.2 was monitored off the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, the US Geological Survey said.

Indonesia lies on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" plate boundaries, and is prone to frequent earthquakes.

On Boxing Day in 2004, a 9.1-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Banda Aceh triggered a tsunami that killed more than 230,000 people, the majority in Indonesia...............http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-30066518

  6. Top U.S. general arrives in Iraq as military campaign expands ...

The top U.S. military officer, General Martin Dempsey, arrived on Saturday in Baghdad on an unannounced visit to meet U.S. commanders preparing to expand American assistance to Iraqi and Kurdish forces battling Islamic State militants.

It was Dempsey’s first trip to Iraq since President Barack Obama, alarmed by Islamic State advances, ordered non-combatant American forces back into the country this summer, less than three years after withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq. The United States began carrying out air strikes in August.

  7. G-20-Gipfel in Brisbane: Obama will 3 Milliarden in Klimafonds investieren

  8. BRICS countries should raise their voice in global economic governance: Chinese president ...

The BRICS countries should actively participate in international multilateral cooperation and raise their voice in global economic governance, Chinese President Xi Jinping said in Brisbane Saturday.

Xi made the remarks while meeting with other leaders of the BRICS countries on the sidelines of the Group of Twenty (G20) summit.

Economic cooperation serves as the lasting power house for the development of the BRICS countries, Xi said when meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, South African President Jacob Zuma and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff.

The BRICS countries should remain committed to drafting long-term blueprint for economic cooperation and forging a closer economic partnership by facilitating market inter-linkages, financial integration, infrastructure connectivity as well as people-to-people contacts, he said.

All sides should step up efforts to the establishment of a new development bank and a contingency reserve arrangement since both are of great significance, he added...............http://www.globaltimes.cn/content/891949.shtml

  9. President Jean-Claude Juncker's Speaking Points at a Joint Press Conference at the G20 in Brisbane ...

    Brisbane, 15 November 2014
Joint Press Conference with European Council President Herman Van Rompuy at the G20 Summit in Brisbane, Australia

    "Ladies and Gentlemen,

This is my first G20 meeting as President of the European Commission. And it makes me particularly proud, as I was the one who fought to ensure the EU – and the Commission – got a seat at the table.

Allow me to touch briefly on three of the main topics we will be addressing over the next two days:

    1/ Investment

We come here today against the backdrop of what we can only describe as a modest economic recovery. Global GDP growth is lower than expected. Growth in Europe is lower than we hoped for. We have to do more to kick-start and sustain economic recovery.

We each need to do our part and it is good that in July the G20 members were able to put forward growth strategies. The EU will strongly support the Brisbane Action Plan, put forth by Australia, and we will push for agreement on a Global Infrastructure Hub to help implement the Global Investment Initiative, agreed in Cairns, by matching investors with projects. After all, what good is raising investment if the money is not being channeled to the priority projects............"

11. Ukraine’s crisis should not be highlighted from only one side, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with the German television ARD...

The interview is to be broadcast on Sunday but the channel’s website posted some extracts on Saturday.

The Russian president said that the problem should not be viewed just from one angle.

Armed hostilities are raging in Ukraine and the Ukrainian government has been using the Armed Forces. But media outlets have not mentioned it, to say nothing of rocket-propelled projectiles, he said.

He asked rhetorically whether the Western media wanted the Ukrainian government to eliminate all its political opponents, adding that Russia did not want it and would not let it happen.

  12. Economy Minister Axel Kicillof and Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman have praised the G20 stance over the sovereign debt restructuring debate as both officials attend the bloc’s summit in Brisbane, Australia....

“Remember that this crisis starts with a debt problem, continues with a debt problem and goes on with a debt problem and it is countries that have difficulties the most to exit a recessive process, those who bear the weight of the debt on their GDP the most,” the Argentine minister said in statements to media.

Kicillof indeed highlighted “a real international instrument that allows countries with debt problems to have a judicial framework to settle these matters” must be implemented. If not, the minister warned, these nations will end up “at the mercy of speculative funds, of vulture funds.”

Brazil and France backed Argentina’s position at the G20 with the debt restructuring debate being included in one of the annexes of the declaration of the ministerial meeting of the bloc that took place in Cairns last September..............http://www.buenosairesherald.com/article/174795/kicillof-says-debt-restructuring-is-a-g20-issue-all-countries-agree

  13. Ukraine's Financial Outlook Is Gloomy ...

Ukraine is engulfed in a financial crisis. Without further Western aid, the Kyiv government will run out of money to service its debts. If the situation continues, Ukraine could face possible default on its bonds in four to six months, if Russia demands early repayment on a multibillion-dollar loan it gave Kyiv before the ouster this year of pro-Moscow President Viktor Yanukovych.

Revolution, months of conflict with Russia on its southeastern border and pervasive corruption and staggering economic mismanagement by the Yanukovych regime has “plunged the country into an existential crisis,” warns economist Anders Aslund, a fellow at the Washington-based Peterson Institute for International Economics.

  14. German embassy worker expelled by Moscow ...

A worker at the German embassy in Moscow has left Russia after being ordered out of the country. Berlin has described the move as a "retaliatory" measure.

News agencies cited an unnamed government source in Berlin on Saturday, who confirmed a report first published in the online edition of the "Spiegel" newsmagazine.

The source said the female embassy worker had already complied with the Russian government's order to leave the country. It described the move as "unjustified" and "retaliatory" in nature and said Berlin had communicated its displeasure to the government in Moscow.

According to the Spiegel report, the expulsion of the German embassy worker came after Berlin had ordered a diplomat working at the Russian consulate in Bonn to leave Germany after being accused of espionage. The report said the decision to expel the diplomat had come after he had been observed for several months by Germany's internal security agency, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. 17. Okinawa vote to determine fate of US base ...

The Japanese prefecture of Okinawa will on Sunday (Nov 16) elect a new governor in a vote that will determine the long-stalled relocation of a US military base, with the outcome potentially presenting a headache for premier Shinzo Abe.

Opinion polls this week showed the vote in the prefecture in Japan's far south could see victory for anti-base candidate Takeshi Onaga, in a neck-and-neck battle with incumbent Hirokazu Nakaima - who has the backing of Abe and his party.

A win for Onaga would be a significant blow to the central government because the governor has the power to veto the landfill work needed for a new base to be built. That would leave Abe facing either overruling locally-elected officials - risking charges of authoritarianism - or reverting to the cajoling and persuading of recent years, which would not be popular with Washington. It would also take some of the wind out of Abe's sails just days before he is expected to announce a snap general election..............http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asiapacific/okinawa-vote-to-determine/1475502.html

  20. G20 Leaders’ Communiqué (The White House) ...

The statement below was released today by Australia in its capacity as host of the G20.

    1. Raising global growth to deliver better living standards and quality jobs for people across the world is our highest priority. We welcome stronger growth in some key economies. But the global recovery is slow, uneven and not delivering the jobs needed. The global economy is being held back by a shortfall in demand, while addressing supply constraints is key to lifting potential growth. Risks persist, including in financial markets and from geopolitical tensions. We commit to work in partnership to lift growth, boost economic resilience and strengthen global institutions.

    2. We are determined to overcome these challenges and step up our efforts to achieve strong, sustainable and balanced growth, and to create jobs. We are implementing structural reforms to lift growth and private sector activity, recognising that well-functioning markets underpin prosperity. We will ensure our macroeconomic policies are appropriate to support growth, strengthen demand and promote global rebalancing. We will continue to implement fiscal strategies flexibly, taking into account near-term economic conditions, while putting debt as a share of GDP on a sustainable path. Our monetary authorities have committed to support the recovery and address deflationary pressures when needed, consistent with their mandates. We will be mindful of the global impacts of our policies and cooperate to manage spillovers. We stand ready to use all policy levers to underpin confidence and the recovery............http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2014/11/16/g20-leaders-communiqu

  25. Israel government to debate 'Jewish State' bill on Sunday...

Israel's Ministerial Committee on Legislation is set on Sunday to debate a controversial bill that aims to define Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people, Israeli radio reported Sunday.

The bill, sponsored by Likud lawmaker chairman Ze’ev Elkin, would recognize Hebrew as the official language in Israel, while Arabic will be given special status.

Israeli daily The Jerusalem Post said that the bill is likely to be backed by a majority of the committee's ministers. However, sources close to Justice Minister Tzipi Livni said she would do her utmost to prevent the advancement of the bill to the Knesset (parliament).

Israel's proclamation as a Jewish state has been a point of contention at the latest round of U.S.-mediated peace talks with the Palestinians.

After attending the G20 summit in Brisbane, Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman will travel to New York tomorrow to resume talks on the development of a legal framework to regulate restructuring of foreign sovereign debt, a project that was suggested by Argentina with the support of the G77+China and approved by the UN General Assembly in September.

“On President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s orders I will be travelling tomorrow to meet with the president of the (UN) General Assembly, and with representatives of the African Union, of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, and G77+China, to begin talks on everything discussed in the G-20 (summit) and to continue the debate about (sovereign) debt in the United Nations,” Timerman said to reporters at the end of the G-20 summit.

The summit ended with a victory for Argentina, as the bloc included debt restructuring in its official communique.

Last September, 124 countries voted in favour of Argentina’s proposal to create a multilateral legal framework for sovereign debt restructuring process, sparked by the country’s debt battle with its holdout creditors.

  33. The West expressed a disproportionate reaction to Crimea’s merger with Russia earlier in the year as Moscow acted in line with the Kosovo precedent, Russian President Vladimir Putin said....

“We believe that this sort of reaction was totally disproportionate to what had happened,” Putin said in an interview with German TV channel ARD. “Whenever I hear complaints about Russia violating international law I am simply amazed.”

“What is international law? It is first of all the United Nations Charter, international practice and its interpretation by relevant international institutions. Moreover, we have a clear recent precedent - Kosovo.”

The Russian president said he meant the ruling of the International Court of Justice, which ruled that Kosovo had the right for self-determination.

“But not only that,” Putin said. “Its main point was that when making a decision concerning their self-determination, the people living in a certain territory need not ask the opinion of the central authorities of the state where they presently live. They do not need the approval by the central authorities, by the government, to take the necessary measures for self-determination. We have a new start this morning. Not only for Europe, as the Commission's slogan says, but also for Foreign Policy. We will start with the Ministers early this morning with a discussion on the working methods. If we want to be effective in the world, we need to be effective starting from here, from Brussels. So, we will try to share our common vision and make it owned by all the 28 Member States.

Obviously, we will discuss Ukraine which is the main issue on the agenda today. We will for sure discuss the sanctions, but not only the sanctions - because we all know very well that if we work only on that, but not on the other two tracks, even sanctions will not work. We need to work more on the reforms of Ukraine. We will start right know by meeting Foreign Minister Klimkin and we will sign an agreement that allows the European Union to start a mission to assist the Ukrainian authorities on restructuring the civilian security of the country. We will start the mission as of 1 December 2014. We will also discuss about the relations and the dialogue with Russia to get to a solution of the crisis....................http://eeas.europa.eu/statements-eeas/2014/141117_02_en.htm

But the latest currency policies conducted by some developed countries, including the U.S. interest rate hike and Japan’s quantitative easing expansion, will trigger the turbulence of global financial markets and impose great downward pressure on newly-emerging economies. 42. Almost 36m people live in modern slavery - report ...

Nearly 36 million people worldwide, or 0.5% of the world's population, live as slaves, a survey by anti-slavery campaign group Walk Free says.

The group's Global Slavery Index says India has the most slaves overall and Mauritania has the highest percentage.

The total is 20% higher than for 2013 because of better methodology.

The report defines slaves as people subject to forced labour, debt bondage, trafficking, sexual exploitation for money and forced or servile marriage.

It uses slavery in a modern sense of the term, rather than as a reference to the broadly outlawed traditional practice where people were held in bondage and treated as another person's property.

The Global Slavery Index's estimate is higher than other attempts to quantify modern slavery. In 2012, the International Labour Organisation estimated that almost 21 million people were victims of forced labour...........http://www.bbc.com/news/world-30080578

  48. Turkish submarine confronts Greek coast guard in fishing standoff ...

A Turkish submarine and a Greek coast guard were engaged in a maritime standoff on Nov. 17, amid a fishing crisis in the Aegean.

A group of Turkish fishermen told the Doğan News Agency that the Greek coast guard, which left its base on the island of Kos, violated Turkish territorial waters off Bodrum at around noon. Approaching as close as 50 meters, the Greek ship urged the Turkish fishermen to return to the coast for two hours.

In response, a Turkish submarine from its base in Marmaris surfaced near the hotspot while travelling toward Kuşadası at 2 p.m. The submarine showed the Turkish flag on the surface, after which the coast guard retreated to international waters, before again turning back in the direction of Turkey.

A number of Turkish naval officers watched the Greek vessel from the deck of the submarine from an even closer distance, the agency said, while releasing photographs of the incident.

The tension was defused at 3.20 p.m. when Turkish fishermen returned to the coast and the Greek coast guard went back to Kos. The Turkish submarine then continued on its normal route.

  68. Finland's Foreign Minister says Finland has bought natural gas from Russia for over 40 years, and the country has never had any problems in its supply or transfer...

Finland has no reason to stop or freeze their agreements with Russia on natural gas, Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Sakari Tuomioja said Tuesday.

Toumioja's remarks came during a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu in Ankara.

When asked about whether Finland is thinking about revising their natural gas agreements with Russia due to the developments in Ukraine, Toumioja said there is no reason to stop any deals with Russia.

" Finland has been buying natural gas fromRussia for more than 40 years, and we have never had any problems in its supply or transfer," he said.

In 1971, the two countries signed the first contract for the supply of up to 1.4 billion cubic meters per year. Actual gas volumes arrived to Finland in 1974. As of today, the country has received more than 114 billion cubic meters of gas, of which 3.54 billion cubic meters were delivered in 2013 alone, a statement in Gazprom Export's website says.

In May 2012, Gazprom Export and Finnish gas company, Gasum extended the March 1994 contract for gas supplies to Finland to Dec. 31, 2027.

Because of the sanctions imposed by western powers over Russia's stance in eastern Ukraine, and its annexation of the Crimean peninsula, the Finnish Foreign Minister said they will be "more comfortable", if they have alternative resources.

"In fact, we have just reached an agreement with Estonia to build two liquefied natural gas terminals," he said.

On Monday, Finland and Estonia reached a deal to build two LNG terminals to agree on a roadmap to improve the countries' gas infrastructure.

"The plans include the construction of a large-scale LNG terminal in Finland, which would then provide liquefied natural gas to users in the region at competitive prices. The Baltic connector pipeline would link gas markets in Finland and Estonia," said a statement on the Finnish government's website.

"I am very satisfied that we have reached agreement. With the implementation of the planned measures, Finland will become integrated into the European gas network and will be able to improve the country's gas-based energy security," said Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb.

Now, a new study in mice has found that when combined with radiation treatment, cannabis can effectively shrink one of the most aggressive types of brain tumors.

In a paper published Friday in the journal Molecular Cancer Therapies, a team of researchers from St. George's University of London outlined the "dramatic reductions" they observed in high-grade glioma masses, a deadly form of brain cancer, when treated with a combination of radiation and two different marijuana compounds, also known as cannabinoids. In many cases, those tumors shrunk to as low as one-tenth the sizes of those in the control group.

"We've shown that cannabinoids could play a role in treating one of the most aggressive cancers in adults," Dr. Wai Liu, one of the study's lead authors, wrote in an op-ed earlier this week.

  94. France gets power to impeach president ...

French lawmakers now have the power to launch a US-style impeachment of their president under a new law passed on Wednesday.

Heads of state in France have until now enjoyed some of the strongest legal protections in the West - only removable in cases of high treason.

But the law approved by the Constitutional Council on Wednesday sets out a procedure for removing the president from office in cases where there has been a "breach of their duties that is clearly incompatible with the exercise of their mandate".

The impeachment process first requires 10 percent of upper house senators and 10 percent of lower house deputies to sign a resolution.

A two-thirds majority in both houses of parliament must then vote to convene a special session of select lawmakers known as the High Court...............http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/europe/France-gets-power-to-impeach-president/articleshow/45206733.cms

    3. Firmly committed to Serbia's EU perspective ...

Johannes Hahn, the European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, is in Serbia today. On his first official visit to the Western Balkans in his new capacity, Commissioner Hahn is discussing Serbia's reform agenda on the way to EU accession. He will have meetings with the whole politic spectrum, above all President Tomislav Nikolić, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic as well as other Ministers. During his visit he is also meeting the European Integration Committee of the Serbian Parliament, NGOs and IFIs.

In the press conference following the meeting with Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić Comissioner Hahn said:

'I am very pleased to be back to Belgrade in my new capacity. My visit to Serbia so early in my new mandate shows the importance the EU attaches to Serbia and demonstrates that enlargement negotiations have the same priority as before.

Prime Minister Vučić and I had a very fruitful discussion. I reassured Prime Minister Vučić about the firmness of EU's commitment to Serbia's European perspective and highlighted that the EU is committed on remaining Serbia's closest partner.

I congratulated PM Vučić on the professionalism and high level of commitment of Serbia throughout the negotiation process.

The Prime Minister and I have discussed the accession negotiations. I emphasised the key lesson learned of past enlargements: the accession process must be transparent and inclusive. Joining the EU is a societal project, which ultimately belongs to the citizens. It is therefore important that all stakeholders, civil society, business community and citizens at large feel ownership about this process and feel associated to the reforms its brings. EU membership is not an endeavour of the few but the ambition of the many.

I welcome the reform priorities of the government to ensure sustainable economic growth as well as the continued attention paid to ensuring the rule of law, the fight against corruption and organised crime and the reform of the judiciary and public administration..................http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_STATEMENT-14-2004_en.htm?locale=en

  120. Millions of undocumented immigrants to benefit from Obama's executive actions ...

US President Barack Obama has announced that undocumented immigrants to be able to stay in the United States if they have been living in the country for more than five years and if they successfully pass a criminal background check.

WASHINGTON, November 21 (Sputnik) — Undocumented immigrants will be able to stay in the United States if they have been living in the country for more than five years and if they successfully pass a criminal background check, US President Barack Obama has announced.

"We're going to offer the following deal: If you've been in America for more than five years; if you have children who are American citizens or legal residents; if you register, pass a criminal background check, and you're willing to pay your fair share of taxes — you'll be able to apply to stay in this country temporarily without fear of deportation," Obama said Thursday.

"I know some of the critics of this action call it amnesty. Well, it's not. Amnesty is the immigration system we have today," the US president added, stressing that the US "immigration system is broken – and everybody knows it".

"It's been this way for decades. And for decades, we haven't done much about it," Obama said, explaining that his action is a "common-sense, middle-ground approach".

"If you meet the criteria, you can come out of the shadows and get right with the law. If you're a criminal, you'll be deported. If you plan to enter the U.S. illegally, your chances of getting caught and sent back just went up," Obama said..............http://sputniknews.com/us/20141121/1014977743.html

  121. NATO presence in Afghanistan must be supported by UN resolution....

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) believes the presence of NATO forces in Afghanistan after 2015 must be supported by a United Nations Security Council resolution, Russian ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin told a General Assembly meeting on Thursday on behalf of the CSTO, which unites Russia and its allies.

The signing of a bilateral agreement on security on September 30 this year between Afghanistan and the United States and an agreement with NATO on the status of forces is the Afghan Islamic Republic’s sovereign right, which is not questioned. The documents are expected to contribute to strengthening security in the country. A new mission approved by Afghanistan's government and supported by a relevant UN Security Council resolution would be in accordance with international cooperation, he said......Read more: http://indian.ruvr.ru/news/2014_11_21/NATO-presence-in-Afghanistan-must-be-supported-by-UN-resolution-7629/

  122. Plunging Crude Oil Prices Boon for Indian Economy ...

Plunging global crude oil prices are turning out to be a boon for India, a country which is heavily dependent on oil imports. Cheaper oil is boosting the government’s efforts to lift the economy from a deep slump.

For decades, subsidies on energy in India have been a huge drag on government finances, but efforts to roll them back have been stalled by a public and political outcry.

However, the nearly 25 percent slide in international crude prices since June provided a rare opportunity for the government to end its controls on diesel prices last month.

Indian consumers barely noticed. The reason: despite the subsidy withdrawal, the plunging global oil prices mean they are not paying more money at gas stations to fill their vehicles.

Economists say tumbling crude prices have brought multiple benefits -- oil is the single biggest import in a country which buys two thirds of its needs from overseas..................http://www.voanews.com/content/plunging-crude-oil-prices-boon-for-indian-economy/2528869.html

  125. Security Heightened in Jerusalem's Old City Ahead of Prayers ...

Israel stepped up security across Jerusalem ahead of Friday prayers and allowed entry of Palestinians of all ages to al-Aqsa, Israeli police said.

Police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld told Reuters that hundreds of policemen deployed in and around the old city. He said that restrictions on worshippers would not be imposed for a second week in a row in a bid to ease tensions.

  126. S. Korea conducts live-fire drill near inter-Korean sea border ...

South Korea's military on Friday conducted a live-fire drill in islands near the disputed inter- Korean maritime border despite the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s condemnation against it.

The Northwest Islands Defense Command, Seoul's military command defending the five West Sea border islands, carried out the drill for about two hours from 3 p.m. local time, according to Seoul's Defense Ministry.

It mobilized K-9 self-propelled howitzers with a range of 40 km and multiple rocket launchers ranging from 23 to 36 km. Those equipments were dispatched from Yeonpyeong and Baengnyeong islands.

The two islands have been a hotspot on the Korean Peninsula. The DRPK fired shells at Yeongpyong on Nov. 23, 2010, killing four South Koreans, including two marines. In March 2010, a South Korean navy corvette Cheonan sank in waters near the Baengnyeong Island, killing 46 soldiers.

The live-fire drill also involved the firing of a Spike missile capable of precisely striking the DPRK's coastal artillery positions near the border. It marked the second time that the South Korean military fired the missile, which was deployed in May last year, during the drill near the western sea border.

Earlier in the day, the DPRK's Southwest Frontline Military Command issued a statement, condemning the live-fire drill. It said South Korea "should never forget the lesson from the bitter defeat" in the shelling of Yeongpyeong.

In response, Seoul's defense ministry spokesman told a press briefing that Friday's live-fire drill had nothing to do with the fourth anniversary of the Yeonpyeong shelling that falls on Sunday, saying it was a regularly-held live-fire drill conducted by the command in charge of defending the northwest islands.

  127. North Korea moves to strengthen Russia ties ...

North Korea and Russia are aiming to bolster their military ties, Pyongyang’s state media said Friday as the two countries’ leaders look set to hold summit talks.

The North’s official Korean Central News Agency relayed the details of a meeting of senior Russian and North Korean military officials.

“Both sides had a wide-ranging exchange of views on putting the friendship and cooperation between the armies of the two countries on a new higher stage,” the report stated.

The agency did not specify when the discussion took place between No Kwang-chol, vice chief of the North Korean army’s general staff, and his Russian counterpart but No is known to have travelled with a delegation to Moscow this week.

Just hours before the news report, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters that Moscow was ready for the “highest-level contact” with Pyongyang and strongly hinted that President Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un would meet...................http://www.aa.com.tr/en/news/424084--north-korea-moves-to-strengthen-russia-ties

  128. Russian Communist Party offers to terminate diplomatic ties with Lithuania ...

Deputy head of the Duma faction of the Communist Party, Nikolai Kolomeytsev, suggested Russia should terminate diplomatic relations with Lithuania and introduce sanctions against the Baltic country, RIA Novosti.

The MP was outraged about the remarks from Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite that she said on Thursday, November 20 during her interview on a local radio station. In the context of Ukrainian events, she called Russia "a terrorist state" and urged to provide military support to the sitting Ukrainian authorities.

"This is unacceptable if the president of a country allows such boorish and cynical remarks," MP Kolomeytsev said.

State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin proposed to submit the question about the termination of relations with Lithuania for consideration at the parliament.

Under current law, diplomatic representatives can be appointed and recalled by president after adequate consultations with parliamentary committees and commissions.
