AirAsia flight from Indonesia missing en route to Singapore

Budget carrier AirAsia has confirmed that its flight QZ 8501 from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore had lost contact with air traffic control.
The Airbus 320-200 had 155 passengers plus crew on board, Indonesian transport officials said.

Indonesian media said 149 Indonesians, three people from Korea, and one from Singapore, Britain and Malaysia were onboard.

A search and rescue operation had been launched, Malaysian-based AirAsia said.

  1. An AirAsia plane with 161 people on board lost contact with ground control on Sunday while flying over the Java Sea after taking off from a provincial city in Indonesia for Singapore, and search and rescue operations were underway...

    AirAsia, a regional low-cost carrier with presence in several Southeast Asian countries, said in a statement that the missing plane was an Airbus A320-200 and that search and rescue operations were in progress.

  2. Indonesia ground services lost contact with AirAsia plane ...

    Indonesia’s ground services have lost contact with the Airbus 320-200 plane of the Malaysian low coster Air Asia which was on its way from Indonesia’s second largest city of Surabaya to Singapore.

    Indonesia Metro TV channel reported that the air traffic controller had lost contact with the crew at 07:10 local time (01:10 Moscow time).

    There were 162 people onboard.

    The plane (flight QZ 8501) was supposed to have landed at Changi airport in Singapore at 08:30 local time,
