On Wednesday, US President Barack Obama called Putin's policy "nationalist" and "backward-looking." Obama also accused the Russian president of scaring the country's neighbors and badly damaging national economy.
“This is the best illustration of President Putin’s correctness. We can only express regret for these awkward statements by the US president. They are clearly unfriendly, clearly non-constructive, and aren’t the statements [to be used by] the head of a government who is looking for cooperation,” Peskov said on the Rossiya-24 television station.
Relations between Russia and the United States have deteriorated significantly amid the Ukrainian crisis. The West has accused Russia of meddling in Ukraine’s internal affairs while Moscow has repeatedly denied the allegations and emphasized the necessity to settle the conflict peacefully through dialogue.
