Portuguese PM urges Greece to avoid third bailout

Greece should conclude its bailout program and avoid a third bailout, Portuguese Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho said on Tuesday.
"The negotiation process that opened within the Eurogroup to enable Greece to conclude its program, must be handled correctly," he said at a press conference at an intergovernmental conference between Portugal and Turkey at the Necessidades Palace in Lisbon, according to Portuguese Lusa News Agency.

"It's very important for the stability of the euro zone and for the European Union that the program in Greece ends," he added.

The Eurogroup recently decided to extend the Greek bailout for four more months. It was expected to end on Feb. 28.

Passos Coelho said that the country should avoid a third bailout, adding that it was "essential" for the country to conclude the program they are faced with.

"I hope that the opportunities granted, following the Greek government's adequate request, are properly harnessed so that Greece can conclude its negotiations, close this phase, and if it wishes to do so, be in another situation."

  1. Portugal wants Turkey in 'EU family'....

Portuguese Prime Minister Passos Coelho stressed Tuesday the need to enable Turkey's accession to the European Union.

" Turkey must no longer be a country that has a symbolic say in the EU family photos, but assume a position actually in our family," he said in a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart AhmetDavutoglu at the Foreign Ministry Office in the Portuguese capital Lisbon.

His remarks came following the first meeting of Turkey-Portugal Intergovernmental Summit, established when Coelho visited Turkey back in December 2012.

Davutoglu thanked Coelho for his support of Turkey's EU membership bid, saying "this is the strong and clear voice Turkey needs in the EU."...................http://www.aa.com.tr/en/headline/473508--portugal-wants-turkey-in-eu-family

  2. Greece Can Do Without Third Aid Package, Not Afraid of Default...

There is no danger of a default happening in Greece in the near future so it does not need a third aid package, the country's Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis said.

Varoufakis stressed that Greece wants to put an end to its dependence on international creditors and is working on stabilizing its economy.

"There are no preparations for a third credit package and the country does not need it," the finance minister said Wednesday evening, adding that Greece has a backup plan in case it does not receive the last tranche of aid from the international creditors.

Greece's total debt currently surpasses 320 billion Euros. It has borrowed a total of 240 billion Euros ($265 billion) from the troika of international creditors, comprising the European Union, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), under two aid packages..............http://sputniknews.com/europe/20150305/1019079880.html#ixzz3TUqogus9
