"Russia is working on it. What our response will be -- time will tell," deputy foreign minister Vasily Nebenzya told Interfax news agency, adding that "whoever acts like this has to understand that there will be a counter reaction."
A representative of claimants from the defunct oil firm said Thursday that official accounts and buildings had been frozen in the two countries.
In Belgium, accounts of the Russian embassy in Brussels and representative offices at the European Union and NATO headquarters were among those affected, the Russian foreign ministry said.
Moscow summoned the Belgian ambassador to explain the move and threatened "reciprocal measures targeting Belgian assets in Russia".
The Belgian foreign ministry said the seizures had been conducted by bailiffs without the involvement of the Belgian government.
In France, accounts in around 40 banks were frozen along with eight or nine buildings, Tim Osborne, executive director of the main shareholder GML, told AFP.
There was no immediate confirmation of the asset freezes in France from officials in Moscow or Paris.

Nach den Sperrungen russischer Konten in EU-Staaten wegen Streitigkeiten mit früheren Aktionären des Ölkonzerns Jukos hat Russlands Staatschef Wladimir Putin Widerstand gegen die Maßnahmen angekündigt. "Wir werden unsere Interessen auf dem juristischen Weg verteidigen", sagte Putin am Rande eines Wirtschaftsforums in St. Petersburg. "Unsere Position ist klar, Russland erkennt die Rechtmäßigkeit dieses Gerichts nicht an", fügte er hinzu. Russland habe die Internationale Energiecharta nie ratifiziert.
Die am Donnerstag bekannt gewordenen Kontensperrungen in Belgien und Frankreich gehen auf ein Urteil des internationalen Schiedsgerichts im niederländischen Den Haag vom Juli 2014 zurück. ReplyDeleteLa Russie a menacé vendredi de représailles tout pays qui toucherait à ses avoirs à l'étranger, Vladimir Poutine assurant que Moscou allait "défendre ses intérêts", après le gel en France et en Belgique de comptes bancaires à la demande des actionnaires de l'ex-groupe pétrolier Ioukos de Mikhaïl Khodorkovski.
"Nous allons défendre nos intérêts par voie de justice. Notre position est claire: la Russie ne reconnait pas l'autorité de ce tribunal", a poursuivi M. Poutine devant des journalistes vendredi soir en marge du Forum économique international de Saint-Pétersbourg. Il faisait allusion à la Cour d'arbitrage de La Haye qui a condamné la Russie en 2014 à verser une indemnité de 50 milliards de dollars (37 milliards d'euros) aux actionnaires de Ioukos, groupe démantelé après l'arrestation en 2003 de l'oligarque et opposant au Kremlin Mikhaïl Khodorkovski.
Le ministre russe des Affaires étrangères, Sergueï Lavrov, avait auparavant souligné que Moscou appliquerait la réciprocité aux pays où seraient gelés des avoirs russes.............www.rtl.be
