ReplyDeleteSyriza leader Alexis Tsipras is expected to form a government in the coming days following his decisive victory last night in the Greek elections.
The far-left party secured 35.5% of the vote, well ahead of its nearest rival New Democracy, which won just over 28%.
Speaking to jubilant supporters last night, Mr Tsipras said that Greeks were now synonymous with dignity and struggle, but he warned of difficult times ahead.
It was a resounding and surprising victory. Mr Tsipras took a risk after 25 members of his party split over the bailout he signed up to, and it has paid off.

Le Premier ministre grec sortant Alexis Tsipras, vainqueur des législatives en Grèce avec son parti de gauche radicale Syriza et désireux de mener rondement son retour, devrait former, dès lundi 21 septembre, un gouvernement durable chargé de mettre en œuvre le difficile plan d'aide au pays accepté à contre-cœur en juillet.
"Dès demain, nous nous retroussons les manches pour travailler dur", a lancé dimanche soir Alexis Tsipras à ses sympathisants au centre d'Athènes, après avoir gagné un triple pari en ramenant aisément Syriza, son parti, au pouvoir, en reformant une coalition avec la droite souverainiste et en se débarrassant complètement de l'aile gauche de son parti.
