Six aid convoys enter two Syrian flashpoints

Six truckloads of relief aid was delivered on Sunday to the besieged Shiite town of Foa and the rebel-held town of Zabadani, a military source told Xinhua.

Three truckloads of aid entered the town of Foa, which has been besieged by the jihadi groups in the countryside of the northwestern province of Idlib, said the source on condition of anonymity.

He added that another three trucks entered at the same time to the town of Zabadani, which has been besieged and attacked by the Syrian government troops in the western countryside of the capital Damascus.

The source said the aid convoys were delivered in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.

Earlier, the source told Xinhua that Syrian authorities and the rebel groups agreed on the entry of 10 aid convoys to the Shiite towns of Kafraya and Foa, and 25 others to Zabadani and the adjacent towns of Madaya, Serghaya and Buqain in the western countryside of Damascus.

The entry time of the rest of the agreed-upon convoys wasn't immediate known.

The agreement on this humanitarian gesture came less than a month since the government and the militant groups observed a ceasefire in the aforementioned areas, where the rebels have been besieging and shelling the Shiite towns of Kafraya and Foa, and the government troops were on a crushing offensive against Zabadani and other areas in the western countryside of Damascus.

The agreement came as the Syrian army has recently unleashed wide-scale offensive on several frontlines across the country.
