PKK ends unilateral cease-fire, policeman killed in Silvan

The Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK), an umbrella group that encompasses the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), has announced that it ended the unilateral cease-fire it declared ahead of the Nov. 1 repeat election, amid already escalating tension in predominantly Kurdish region, with a police officer killed during clashes with PKK terrorists in the Silvan district of Diyarbakır province on Thursday.

In a statement disseminated by the Firat news agency, which is close to the militant group, on Thursday, the KCK leadership group announced that they decided to end the cease-fire because “it is no longer possible to be ineffective against the [Justice and Development Party] AK Party's pro-war policies and its operations [conducted against the PKK].”

The KCK had told its members to avoid violent acts against Turkish security forces after calls from in and outside Turkey for a "fair and just election" early in October unless they were attacked by security forces.

Tension has already increased in the eastern and southeastern regions of Turkey after the AK Party government regained its parliamentary majority in Sunday's election, with curfews being imposed and operations being conducted in those regions.

  1. Ankara will begin military operations against the Islamic State jihadist group in the next few days, Turkish Foreign Minister Feridun Sinirlioglu said Thursday.

The minister did not specify where the operations would begin or if any ground troops were set to be involved.

“We plan to begin operations against the Islamic State in the next few days,” Sinirlioglu said.

On October 5, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed a no-fly zone and a safe zone, as well as increased training and equipment for Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters to decrease the high numbers of Syrians fleeing to Europe and other states.
