British warplanes conducted six strikes against IS-controled oil fields Thursday, just hours after politicians voted to extend bombing missions in Syria.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Defense in London said following the vote in the House of Commons last night, Royal Air Force Tornado GR4 aircraft flew their first offensive operation against Daesh terrorist targets inside Syria.
"Our initial analysis of the operation indicates that the strikes were successful," said the statement.
[The strikes were carried out by four Tornado fighter jets and focused on targets in eastern Syria's Omar oil field, 48 kilometers from the border with Iraq.]
A vote in the House of Commons following a 10-hour debate resulted in a vote of 397 to 223 in favor of Britain bombing targets in Syria.
