Russian Aerospace Forces will continue to support Syrian Armed Forces

Kremlin on Friday stressed that the Russian Aerospace Forces will continue to support the Syrian armed forces and military operations against ISIS and other terrorist organizations after the cessation of combat operations goes into effect.

“Russia’s air force will continue airstrikes against terrorists’ sites in Syria after the the cessation of combat operations goes into effect “, the Spokesman for Russia’s Kremlin Dmitry Peskov said.

Peskov noted that the Russian-US initiative to halt combat operations in Syria, certified by Presidents Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama, includes targeting terrorist organizations.

  • Regarding claims circulated by some humanitarian organizations like the so-called “Syrian Observatory for Human Rights” about Russian airstrikes targeting civilian facilities in Syria, Peskov said the Observatory has repeatedly published information which lacked evidence.

On February 22nd, President Putin announced that He and President Obama agreed on the cessation of combat operations in Syria, excluding ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist organizations.

Separately, a source in Russia’s Foreign Ministry said that Intra-Syrian talks are expected to resume in Switzerland’s Geneva on March 7.

“Preliminary, the resumption of intra-Syrian negotiations will be in Geneva on March 7,”
TASS News Agency quoted the source as saying on Friday.
