The foreign Minister of Austria made behind closed borders of the EU

The Minister of foreign Affairs of Austria Sebastian Kurz spoke for further strengthening the control of borders to prevent the emergence of new routes of entry of refugees. On Sunday, March 13, according to RIA Novosti with reference to the interview of the newspaper Bild am Sonntag.

“The borders should remain closed,” said Kurtz. According to him, the illegal crossing of borders cannot stop completely, so it is necessary to block illegal migrants all the way to Europe. The Minister added that the borders can be reopened only after reducing the flow of migrants in the EU.

He also supported closing the so-called “Balkan route” — the main pathway of irregular migrants in Europe. His overlapping announced 8 March the President of the European Council Donald Tusk. He said that in 2015 on the Balkan road to EU arrived 880 thousand illegals, and in the first two months of 2016 — 128 thousand.

“We must do all that we do, on the route through the Western Balkans and on the route across the Mediterranean and Italy, to make it clear: the time left to enter Europe, has passed, no matter which route”, said Kurz.

The Balkan route has the following sequence: from Turkey by sea the Greek Islands, from Greece to FYROM [*], and from there via Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia to Austria and from Austria to Germany. Previously, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and FYROM [*] in turn has pledged to strengthen control on its borders.

In 2015 in the European Union the crisis erupted because of the influx of refugees from the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa. According to the border of the EU Agency Frontex, the borders of the EU since the beginning of 2015 crossed the 1.2 million refugees, most of whom had come from Africa and the Middle East, including Syria, where since 2011’s civil war.

The Council of the EU justice and home Affairs on 22 September 2015 approved a plan for the resettlement of Italy and Greece in the European Union 120 thousand refugees. The relevant decision is made by majority vote of the member countries of the European Union. It was opposed by the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.

6 March NATO decided to deploy combat patrol ships in the territorial waters of Greece and Turkey in the Aegean sea. The goal is to help Greece, Turkey and the European Union in the efforts “to combat human trafficking and criminal networks that fuel the crisis.” On 8 March, the European Union and Turkey agreed at the summit in Belgium the main principles of solving migration problems.
