The Prime Minister of Iraq Haider al-Abadi on Monday announced the beginning of military operation to liberate the city of Fallujah, occupied by the terrorist group “Islamic state” (ISIS/ISIL).
“The time has come to liberate the city of Fallujah,” said Abadi. He added that operations will involve all branches of the armed forces, as well as a number of groups allied with Baghdad.
Fallujah, located in the Western province of Anbar, is under the control of the IG since 2014. Earlier it was reported that the militants of this organization began to kill the inhabitants trying to leave the city.
It is assumed that the IG plans to use civilians as human shields in the event of a military operation.
Banned in Russia grouping “Islamic state” has captured large parts of Iraq and Syria and proclaimed the Caliphate there. Since August 2014, the Alliance of the 65 countries led by the United States conducts bombing terrorist positions in Iraq. A month later they started attacking the coalition on Islamists in Syria.
