Mortar attacks on southern outskirts of Aleppo continue : Russian Defense Ministry

Militants continue mortar attacks on Syrian army positions in Ansar populated locality on the southern outskirts of Aleppo, a spokesman of the Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria told reporters on Wednesday.

"The gunmen who are in Aleppo’s Al-Rashidin district continue mortar attacks on Syrian government troops positions in Ansar inhabited locality on the southern outskirts of the city," he said.

He noted that the center had received information on the latest ceasefire violations by the units of the Jabhat al-Nusra group (outlawed in Russia) in the southern and northern parts of Aleppo. "Mortar attacks on Sheikh Maqsood Kurdish district, Makanis al-Duwairi and Bridg-er-Rikh districts persist," the spokesman said.

He added that the gunmen took the advantage of the cessation of hostilities and the immediate proximity to the areas controlled by the "moderate opposition" to regroup their forces and replenish arms and ammunition.
