New York's governor says bombing was "act of terrorism"

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Sunday that the explosion this weekend in Manhattan was an "act of terrorism," but authorities have not linked it to international terrorist groups.

The bomb went off around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in a dumpster in Chelsea, a neighborhood popular with tourists due to its many restaurants.

"A bomb going off is generically a terrorist activity. That's how we'll consider it. And that's how we will prosecute it," Cuomo said, referring to the bombing Saturday in the Manhattan neighborhood.

Whoever planted the two bombs in Manhattan will be found, the governor said.

The blast on Saturday wounded 29 people and sent dozens of others running for safety.

A second bomb was found at another location in Chelsea, but it did not explode.

"We will find whoever did this or whatever group did this and they will be brought to justice, period," Cuomo said.

The governor said authorities would not allow the individuals behind the attack to disrupt their lives.

"I want New Yorkers to be confident when they go back to work on Monday that New York is up and running and we're doing everything that we need to do," Cuomo said.
