Saudi Arabia Slams US Law Allowing 9/11 Victims to File Lawsuits Against It

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry has warned that the recent US law that allows 9/11 victims to file lawsuits against Saudi Arabia for its alleged support of the hijackers responsible for the terror attacks will have negative consequences for the United States.

On Wednesday, the US Congress passed a law that allows victims to pursue a lawsuit against Saudi Arabia for allegedly supporting hijackers responsible for the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, as most of the terrorists involved were allegedly Saudi nationals.

"The erosion of sovereign immunity will have a negative impact on all nations, including the United States," the ministry said in a Thursday statement, as quoted by The Daily Star.

White House spokesperson Josh Earnest told reporters on Wednesday that the US Senate vote to override Obama's veto of the bill was "embarrassing." The Obama administration had opposed the law, arguing that it could harm US relationships abroad and make Americans vulnerable to foreign lawsuits.
