Journalists Union Calls for Bank to Explain Blocking of RT Accounts

Alexander Mosesov – Earlier in the day, RT's Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan said the broadcaster's accounts have been blocked in the United Kingdom.

"Prior to speaking on this matter, I must say that we are trying to verify all sources as part of the Scottish bank letter published on the RT site is blurred. But for now, I must confess I do not understand the decision of the bank, which does not detail any reason in its letter. But again, the bank must publicly explain [its decision]," Bellanger said. 

The RT UK had been informed by the National Westminster Bank that banking arrangements with the broadcaster are null and void. 

Simonyan stated that the incident will not prevent RT from working in the United Kingdom.

 RT operates a number of cable and satellite television channels in a number of languages and is directed at a foreign audience. The channels provide 24-hour news coverage, as well as airing documentaries, talk shows and debates.[sputniknews.com]
