Albania arrests 2 Russians, Ukrainian trying to enter military plant - The Jerusalem Post

The Albanian Defense Ministry said on Saturday that two of its soldiers were injured while trying to stop two Russians and one Ukrainian who were trying to enter a military plant in central Albania, the ministry said in a statement.

 “Three citizens with Russian and Ukrainian passports have tried to enter the factory,” the ministry said in a statement sent to media.

“The officers who were guarding the plant reacted immediately, but during their efforts to stop the three foreign nationals, two of our soldiers were injured,” the statement said, adding that the condition of the soldiers was stable.

The ministry said the three foreign nationals were detained. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said the three individuals are “suspected of espionage.”

  1. The Russian Embassy has not yet received any information from the Albanian authorities regarding the alleged detention of Russian citizens during their reported attempt to enter an arms factory in the city of Gramsh, the diplomatic mission told Sputnik.

    On Saturday, the factory's head told Albanian Daily News that three people approached the facility but were spotted by the factory's military personnel. Two men and one woman were detained. According to Albanian Daily News, one of the men carried a Ukrainian passport, while the second man and the woman had Russian passports.

    "The local authorities did not pass any such information to the embassy or the consul. We have seen information about the alleged incident only in the Albanian media," a Russian embassy representative told Sputnik commenting on the news report.
