IAEA calls on Russia to abandon Zaporozhye NPP — resolution

The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) adopted a resolution on Thursday calling on Russia to abandon the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, according to the agency’s official website.

"[The Board of Governors] deplores and does not recognize  the Russian Federation’s attempts to take ownership of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (the Zaporozhye NPP - TASS) and its attempted illegal annexation of the Ukrainian territory on which the plant is located and calls upon the Russian Federation to immediately abandon its baseless claims of ownership of the plant," the statement said.

According to the Russian permanent mission in Vienna, Russia and China voted against the resolution, while India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, South Africa, Kenya and Namibia abstained from voting.
