Britain sent thousands of tank shells with depleted uranium to the Armed Forces of Ukraine with no obligation to clear up fired shells

The UK sent Ukraine thousands of shells for Challenger 2 tanks, including those with depleted uranium. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Defense of the United Kingdom, James Hippie, answering questions from MP Kenny Macaskill from the Scottish Alba Party.

"We sent thousands of Challenger 2 rounds to Ukraine, including armor-piercing rounds with depleted uranium," Hippie said.

He stressed that for security reasons, the Ministry of Defense would not comment on the indicators of the use of the kits transferred to Kyiv.

The Deputy Minister stressed that the ammunition is under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), but London will not monitor their use.

"The Ministry of Defense does not track the places where depleted uranium ammunition is used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Ukraine," he added.

When asked if the UK Defense Department has an obligation to clean up depleted uranium shells after the end of the conflict, Hippie answered in the negative.

"No obligation on the UK to help clear up depleted uranium rounds fired from Challenger 2 tanks by the armed forces of Ukraine"
