China accuses Japan of stirring up tensions

China has accused Japan of tarnishing China’s image and ratcheting up tension, saying it runs against efforts to improve Sino-Japanese ties.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying made the remarks in response to the Japanese allegation that China’s use of fire-control radar to lock on to a Japanese fleet in East China Sea amounted to "threat of force".
Hua said at a regular briefing that Chinese authorities are verifying and investigating the incident. Hua Chunying stressed Japan is intentionally stirring up a crisis and causing tensions.

Hua Chunying, spokeswoman of Chinese Foreign Ministry, said, "The problem at present is not China showing strength, but Japan continuously sending its ships and aircraft into the waters and airspace around the Diaoyu Islands to carry out illegal activities, damaging and infringing China’s territorial sovereignty. Recently Japan has been intentionally stirring up a crisis and causing tensions, blackening China’s image. This is diametrically the opposite of efforts to improve relations."

  1. China solemnly demands explanation from Japan.....

BEIJING, Feb. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- China has rejected accusations from Japan’s Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, that China is using its territorial disputes with other nations to maintain domestic support.

Abe made the comments in an interview with the Washington Post. China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei expressed shock, saying it was rare for a state leader to make such irresponsible remarks attacking a neighboring country.

Hong Lei stressed that China has been consistent in developing mutually beneficial relations with Japan, but that it would not stand such accusations. China has solemnly demanded an explanation from Japan.

  2. Chinese Foreign Ministry rejects Japan's allegation (03-01-2013 22:07 BJT).....

China’s Foreign Ministry has rejected recent remarks about the Diaoyu Islands by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. It added that Abe’s bid for the Diaoyu Islands is illegal and invalid and Japan must refrain from actions which intend to smear China’s image.

This is after Shinzo Abe’s recent speech which defended Japan’s national interests in its territorial dispute with China.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a regular news briefing on Friday that Japan must halt action that intends to blacken China’s image.

She said the Japanese side plays up the China threat to provoke regional tension. These actions do not solve problems, but further damage mutual trust.

She said, "If Japan really wants to improve relations between both countries, it should immediately cease all words and actions which intend to smear China’s image. It should take pragmatic action to make an effort to improve and develop Sino-Japanese relations."

Talking about the Diaoyu Islands issue, Hua Chunying said the Islands are China’s inherent territory. She said that all actions Japan has taken up till now over the Diaoyu Islands are based on its theft and occupation of the Chinese territory.

She said, "The so-called "status quo" proposed by the Japanese side is illegal and invalid. We urge the Japanese side to correct its attitude, and face up to history and reality."

In addition, Japan’s Prime Minister said on Thursday that Japanese leaders have the right to show their respect to the spirits in Yasukuni Shrine. In response to his remark, Hua Chunying said Japan’s militarist aggression in World War II brought severe disaster to China and victimized other countries in Asia. Hua urged Japan to take concrete actions to win the trust of the Asian people.

She said, "Yasukuni Shrine is sacred to many Class-A war criminals from World War II, who were directly responsible in the War of Aggression. So, this issue is about whether Japan can correctly understand and deal with its history of militarist aggression and whether it can respect the feelings of people in China and other victimized countries in Asia. We hope Japan can truly honor its commitment to facing squarely and rethinking its history of invasion, properly handle related issues, and take concrete actions to win the trust of Asian people."

Sino-Japanese ties chilled sharply after the Japanese government bought the Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea from a private owner last September. A flare-up in tensions in the territorial row has raised fears of an unintended military incident near the islands.
