  5. Greek Politicians Shout 'Heil Hitler' In Parliament; Far-Right Golden Dawn MP Expelled (VIDEO) .....

A Greek parliamentary session was the scene of a contentious debate between rival political parties on Friday, ending in the ejection of neo-Nazi Golden Dawn MP Panagiotis Iliopoulos amid shouts of "Heil Hitler."

Iliopoulos was ordered out of the session after insulting members of the leftist Syriza party, according to Greek news site Ekathimerini.

Despite repeated warnings, Iliopoulos continued his verbal abuse, calling his colleagues "goats," "scoundrels," and "wretched people," according to Euronews. Security was called to forcibly eject the controversial politician, the site reported.

Several cries of "Heil Hitler" are audible in a video of the scrum (above). It is still unclear who exactly led the offensive cheers.

State-run Athens News Agency claimed Golden Dawn parliament spokesperson Christos Pappas uttered the words, according to Agence France-Presse. Golden Dawn denied the accusation, though Pappas has praised Adolf Hitler in the past.

Ekathimerini, citing "Parliament's minutes," claimed it was actually Syriza MP Christos Pantzas who first referenced the Nazi leader. The Syriza party was quick to condemn the jeering while also blaming Golden Dawn for the incident.

"For the second time this week we hear Hitler being glorified inside parliament by Golden Dawn MPs," Syriza MP Stavros Kontonis told Euronews. "It's strange the fact that in order to distance themselves from praising Hitler in a provocative way, they claimed it was me who uttered this phrase ironically. But this is refuted by their own evidence."

In June of 2012, Golden Dawn captured 18 seats in the Greek parlaiment, stunning Europe with its successful anti-immigrant platform. Earlier this week, the Council of Europe's commissioner for human rights stated that Greece had the legal right to ban the party as part of a push to crack down on the country's rise in hate crimes targeting immigrants, the Associated Press reported.

  6. Golden Dawn and Syriza clash over ‘Heil Hitler’ cries in Greek parliament....

The neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party is at the centre of another political row in Greece after one of its MPs was expelled from parliament amid cries of “Heil Hitler”.

The sitting president had already warned Panayiotis Iliopoulos for repeatedly violating parliamentary rules by insulting fellow deputies.

After he had called them “goats”, “scoundrels” and “wretched people”, security guards were called to lead him away.

The phrase “Heil Hitler “ was clearly heard three times – although who shouted it is in dispute. Golden Dawn claims the cries came from left-wing deputies from the opposition Syriza party.

However, Stavros Kontonis, an MP from Syriza, is having none of it.

“For the second time this week we hear Hitler being glorified inside parliament by Golden Dawn MPs. It’s strange the fact that in order to distance themselves from praising Hitler in a provocative way, they claimed it was me who uttered this phrase ironically. But this is refuted by their own evidence,” he told euronews.

Amid anger at the recession and resentment at immigration, Golden Dawn won 18 seats in last year’s Greek elections.

Several deputies have had their immunity from prosecution lifted pending criminal charges.

  7. Disturbing video: Greek member of parliament shouts ‘heil Hitler’ during session....

At first it’s tough to make out through the shouting, but, about 36 seconds into the above video from a session of parliament in Greece, the words come through loud and clear: “Heil Hitler.”

A Greek member of Parliament, from the far-right party Golden Dawn, shouted the Nazi slogan after an argument on the parliament floor, according to the International Business Times and a local outlet called the Greek Reporter. The sources disagree as to whether the Golden Dawn official who shouted it was Panayiotis Iliopoulos or Christos Pappas.

Here’s what’s thought to have happened: Iliopoulos, who had recently assaulted some immigrant vendors at an Athens port, got into an argument with members of Greece’s far-left Syriza party, whom he called “goats” and “filthy, scurrilous” people.

The parliament’s acting speaker, also a member of Syriza, asked Iliopoulos to leave. “Go away before we send you away,” he said, according to the Greek Reporter. As a scrum of Golden Dawn lawmakers filed out of the room, shouting angrily on the way out, “Heil Hitler” is audible at three different moments.

It’s not clear from the video if the three repetitions came from Iliopoulos or from another Golden Dawn member such as Pappas, a spokesman who was with the group at the time. But it is yet another worrying sign about the rise of extremist political movements in this troubled country. Sometimes Golden Dawn is referred to as a far-right party and, less frequently, a neo-Nazi movement. It’s a fuzzy distinction, but maybe it just got a little bit less fuzzy.
