Greece’s prime minister has arrived looking for investment and trade deals, to help revive his country’s recession-battered economy. President Xi Jinping met with Antonis Samaras on Friday, saying that China has long regarded Greece as a reliable good friend and partner.

President Xi called for joint efforts to push forward the comprehensive and strategic partnership between the two countries and he expressed hope that Greece will continue to play a unique role in helping China foster cooperation with the EU, once Greece assumes the rotating EU Presidency in 2014.

Samaras expressed admiration for the achievements made by China in social and economic development, calling China a true friend of Greece. Samaras is traveling with a large delegation of businessmen and ministers, in a bid to attract Chinese buyers for Greek assets and products. He’ll later travel to China’s financial capital, Shanghai.
