«Οι τρομοκράτες μπορεί να επιλέξουν να χρησιμοποιήσουν μια πλειάδα μέσων και όπλων για να χτυπήσουν τόσο δημόσιες όσο και ιδιωτικές εγκαταστάσεις» αναφέρει η ανακοίνωση.
Είχε προηγηθεί την Πέμπτη η ανακοίνωση για το κλείσιμο πρεσβειών και προξενείων την Κυριακή, τελευταία ημέρα του Ραμαζανιού για λόγους ασφαλείας. Μια εκπρόσωπος του Στέιτ Ντιπάρτμεντ, η Μέρι Χαρφ, είχε κάνει λόγο για μέτρο «προληπτικού χαρακτήρα», αρνούμενη να δώσει λεπτομέρειες για κάποια συγκεκριμένη απειλή ή να πει για ποιες ακριβώς πρεσβείες και ποια ακριβώς προξενεία πρόκειται.

EU says taking precautions after U.S. says will close embassies ...
ReplyDeleteBRUSSELS - The European Union is taking "all necessary precautions" after the United States said it would close some embassies on Sunday because of security concerns, a spokesman said.
"We are aware of the move by the US and we are in contact with our US counterparts," European Commission spokesman Alexandre Polack said. "Delegations of the EU in the affected region are liaising with US embassies."
The EU had no immediate comment on an announcement by the US government that it was issuing a worldwide travel alert, warning US citizens about the "continued potential for terrorist attacks, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa."

ReplyDeleteIl Dipartimento di Stato Usa lancia l'allarme: "Pericolo attacchi da parte di terroristi in tutto il mondo". Domenica ambasciate americane chiuse in Medio Oriente.
A far scattare l'allarme sarebbe stata una minaccia (non specificata) da parte della rete terroristica al Qaeda. A dare l’allarme è stato il dipartimento di Stato ameriucano che oggi ha denunciato "una continua potenziale di attacchi terroristici" che si starebbero concentrando per un'evenetuale azione in agosto. L’allerta arriva il giorno dopo quello in cui il Dipartimento di Stato ha dato istruzioni a varie sue ambasciate in Medio Oriente e oltre perché restino chiuse domenica prossima.
I rischi per la sicurezza coinvolgono una vastissima area. Domenica saranno chiuse le sedi diplomatiche americane in Egitto, Iraq, Qatar, Bahrein, Kuwait, Afghanistan, di Dacca in Bangladesh, di Amman in Giordania, di Moscate in Oman, di Riad in Arabia Saudita, di Algeri in Algeria, di Abu Dhabi negli Emirati, a Sanaa in Yemen, a Tripoli in Libia. La chiusura potrebbe protrarsi anche dopo domenica. "Si tratta di minacce - ha spiegato il presidente della commissione Esteri della Camera dei Rappresentanti, Ed Royce, alla Cnn - che vengono dal Medio Oriente e dall’Asia centrale legate ad Al Qaida. Ovviamente verranno prese tutte le misure necessarie per garantire la piena sicurezza al nostro personale civile e militare all’estero". Oggi Royce ha, infatti, rivelato che questo tema è state al centro di un incontro di un paio di giorni fa tra lui, altri parlamentari e il vicepresidente Joe Biden. A fronte di questa preoccupazione è scattato il travel altert che scadrà soltanto il 31 agosto. Il Dipartimento di Stato americano è fortemente preoccupato perché "i cittadini americani continuano a essere potenziali obiettivi di attacchi terroristici". Secondo recenti informazioni, infatti, al Qaida e organizzazioni affiliate starebbero programmando attentati. Attentati che, secondo l'intelligence statunitense, potrebbero concentrare i loro sforzi per tutto il mese di agosto. "I cittadini americani - ha chiesto il ministero degli Esteri americano - devono quindi assumere tutte le precauzioni e adottare le misure di sicurezza appropriate per proteggersi durante il viaggio". L'amministrazione Obama ha, quindi, chiesto a tutti di registrare il proprio piano di viaggio nel sito web del Dipartimento di Stato e iscriversi al programma Smart traveler enrollment program (Step) in modo da ricevere tutte le informazioni e gli aggiornamenti sulla sicurezza e i dati delle ambasciate o i consolati più vicini.

ReplyDeleteL'ambassade de Grande-Bretagne au Yémen sera fermée dimanche 4 août et lundi 5 août, a annoncé vendredi le Foreign Office, invoquant des raisons de sécurité. «L’ambassade sera fermée le 4 et le 5 août», a déclaré un porte-parole du Foreign Office. «Nous avons retiré un certain nombre de membres du personnel (de l’ambassade) de Sanaa, en raison de préoccupations accrues sur la sécurité», a indiqué le porte-parole. «Nous sommes particulièrement préoccupés par la situation de la sécurité dans les derniers jours du ramadan et pour (la fête musulmane de) l’Aïd», a ajouté le Foreign Office.
Cette annonce intervient après que le département d’Etat américain a annoncé jeudi son intention de fermer 22 consulats et ambassades pour la journée de dimanche. Et vendredi, le département d’Etat a diffusé une mise en garde à l’attention de tous les ressortissants américains dans le monde. Una amenaza indeterminada de Al Qaeda, constatada gracias a la interceptación de chats y mensajes electrónicos entre miembros de la organización terrorista, ha determinado a Estados Unidos a extremar las precauciones en los países árabes y de mayoría musulmana. El Departamento de Estado activó el viernes una inusual alerta global para todos los ciudadanos estadounidenses que tengan pensado viajar a Oriente Próximo, Norte de África y Sur de Asia justo un día después de que ordenara el cierre de la mayoría de las embajadas y consulados en esos territorios ante la posibilidad “sería y creíble” de ser el objetivo de un atentado terrorista. A la decisión estadounidense se han sumado Inglaterra, Francia y Alemania, que también cerrarán el domingo las puertas de las sedes de sus legaciones diplomáticas en Yemen, y Canadá, que ha puesto en marcha un alerta de viaje similar a la de su vecino norteamericano.

Terror alert ‘reflects failure of US policy, shows Al-Qaeda power’...
DeleteThe US State Department’s travel alert and closure of more than 20 US embassies in Muslim countries are the result of a failure of US policy in the Arab world, and indicate how powerful Al-Qaeda has become there, author and historian Gerald Horne told RT.
Washington on Friday urged US travelers to take extra precautions due to the “continued potential for terrorist attacks” in the Middle East and North Africa. The alert, which warned of Al-Qaeda activity “possibly occurring and emanating from the Arabian Peninsula,” is applicable until at least August 31.
More than 20 US embassies and consulates have been temporarily closed in Muslim countries due to a “specific threat,” while the “increased threat” of Al-Qaeda terrorist attacks has prompted the UK and Germany to shut down their embassies in Yemen.
The global terror scares clearly show that the US policy in Middle East and North Africa has backfired, says Horne, who is Chair of History and African American Studies at the University of Houston, Texas.
RT: With 21 embassies closing it doesn't appear that the threat is that specific. What could we be talking about here?
Gerald Horne: Recall September 11, 2012, when the US Consulate in Benghazi, including US Ambassador Chris Stevens, were subjected to attack. Mr Stevens, as you recall, was killed. What this alert basically reflects is that US policy in that part of the world has backfired. For example, in Syria, the United States has encouraged, if not supported, a war against the Damascus-based regime of [President Bashar] Assad. This has involved a number of US nationals and European nationals going into Syria to fight with the so-called jihadists. This is giving a shot in the arm to Al-Qaeda backed forces, such as the al-Nusra Front in Syria, which is tied to Al-Qaeda in Iraq… In the last month [they] have been engaged in a spate of car bombings in Baghdad and the surrounding region. So it seems to me that the State Department alert reflects a failure of US policy.
RT: And this is indicative of how powerful Al-Qaeda has become?
GH: Absolutely. The rumors about Al-Qaeda’s death have been greatly exaggerated. It is not only the fact that you have the US collaborating with the so-called Islamists in 2011 to overthrow Colonel Gaddafi in Libya. It is the fact that those Islamists then spread their tentacles into neighboring Algeria, where there was an attack on an energy installation a few months ago, and into neighboring Niger, where the so-called Islamists attacked a uranium facility leading to a number of deaths. And into neighboring Mali where they took over basically Northern Mali before being expelled by the French forces. All this is a direct outgrowth, and a direct result of a failed US policy.
RT: What are the consequences of these embassies being shut? Could they be closed for a longer period - beyond Sunday?
GH: It is unclear how long these embassies and consulates will be closed down. But August is the month when US nationals, generally speaking, take vacations - and many of them take vacations and tours in that part of the world. ReplyDeleteLes États-Unis appellent leurs ressortissants à quitter «immédiatement» le Yémen, à la suite des consignes données directement par Ayman al-Zawahiri, numéro 1 de l'organisation terroriste, de «faire quelque chose» dès dimanche dernier.
On en sait désormais plus sur le faisceau d'indices qui a poussé la semaine dernière les États-Unis à fermer une vingtaine d'ambassades et de consulats dans les pays arabes et à appeler, mardi, leurs ressortissants à quitter le Yémen «immédiatement». Les renseignements américains ont, selon plusieurs médias, intercepté des «communications» entre le chef d'al-Qaida et le responsable de la branche yéménite de l'organisation. Dans un message, Ayman al-Zawahiri encourageait le patron d'al-Qaida dans la Péninsule arabique (AQPA) Nasser al-Wuhayshi à «faire quelque chose» dès dimanche dernier 4 août.
Non seulement ces échanges émanent de «cerveaux» d'al-Qaida mais ils sont très précis, ce qui explique pourquoi Washington les a pris autant au sérieux. En outre, relèvent les analystes, il est rare que le leader d'al-Qaida, qui a trouvé refuge au Pakistan, discute des opérations à venir avec les organisations sœurs. Il semble qu'Ayman al-Zawahiri se soit rapproché de Nasser al-Wuhayshi. Il y a quelques semaines, il aurait nommé l'ancien secrétaire de Ben Laden en Afghanistan, «manager», soit numéro 2 du réseau al-Qaida.

Leurs messages surviennent alors que le «bavardage» entre sympathisants d'al-Qaida s'est intensifié. Des communications auraient été observée s entre des membres d'al-Qaida et quelqu'un résidant aux Etats-Unis. Les contacts auraient eu lieu par voie électronique comme postale. Dans le même temps, plusieurs figures d'al-Qaida ont retrouvé la liberté à la faveur d'évasions massives de prison en Irak, en Libye et au Pakistan, rappelle CNN. L'AQPA serait en train de finaliser un attentat qui coïnciderait avec la fin du ramadan cette semaine, craignent les services secrets américains. Les intérêts occidentaux au Yémen seraient une cible de choix.
