Κρατώντας ουκρανικές και ευρωπαϊκές σημαίες 250.000 έως 300.000 διαδηλωτές κατέκλυσαν την Πλατεία της Ανεξαρτησίας και τους γύρω δρόμους φωνάζοντας "παραίτηση".
Οι οργανωτές δήλωσαν ότι οι διαδηλωτές έφθαναν το ένα εκατομμύριο, ενώ η αστυνομία ανακοίνωσε ότι αριθμούσαν 60.000.
Η ουκρανική αντιπολίτευση κατέβηκε στους δρόμους από την περασμένη εβδομάδα αντιδρώντας στην απόφαση του προέδρου της χώρας Βίκτορ Γιανουκόβιτς να μην υπογράψει τη συμφωνία σύνδεσης με την Ευρωπαϊκή Ενωση και κατηγορώντας τον, μετά τις συνομιλίες που είχε με τον ρώσο πρόεδρο Βλαντίμιρ Πούτιν με θέμα τη "στρατηγική σύμπραξη" της Ουκρανίας με τη Ρωσία, ότι θέλει να ρίξει τη χώρα στην αγκαλιά της Μόσχας.
Σε μία συμβολική κίνηση προς τη Μόσχα τριάντα διαδηλωτές γκρέμισαν και έσπασαν το άγαλμα του Λένιν που βρίσκεται στο κέντρο του Κιέβου και χρησίμευε ως σημείο αναφοράς των εγχώριων κομμουνιστών.
Δύο βουλευτές του εθνικιστικού κόμματος Σβόμποντα ήταν παρόντες στη σκηνή, σύμφωνα με φωτογράφο του Γαλλικού Πρακτορείου Ειδήσεων, ο οποίος είδε τους διαδηλωτές να δένουν ένα σκοινί γύρω από το λαιμό του αγάλματος ύψους 3,4 μέτρων και να το τραβούν μέχρι να πέσει στο έδαφος.
- Ο βουλευτής της αντιπολίτευσης Αντριι Τσεβτσένκο διαβεβαίωσε ότι η ευθύνη για την ενέργεια αυτή ανήκει σε μία μεμονωμένη ομάδα διαδηλωτών και ότι δεν τυγχάνει της έγκρισης του συνόλου του κινήματος.
Νωρίτερα, ο Αρσένι Γιατσενιούκ, εκ των ηγετών της αντιπολίτευσης, κάλεσε τους διαδηλωτές να διευρύνουν το κίνημα αμφισβήτησης αποκλείοντας την έδρα της κυβέρνησης. Μέρος των διαδηλωτών εγκατέστησε σκηνές κοντά στην έδρα της κυβέρνησης και έστησε οδοφράγματα.
- Ταυτόχρονα, οι ουκρανικές ειδικές υπηρεσίες (SBU) ανακοίνωσαν την έναρξη έρευνας για "απόπειρα κατάληψης της εξουσίας", έπειτα από "παράνομες ενέργειες ορισμένων πολιτικών", η ταυτότητα των οποίων δεν διευκρινίσθηκε.
Περί τους 20.000 συγκεντρώθηκαν στο Λβιβ, πόλη της κατά παράδοσιν φιλοευρωπαϊκής δυτικής Ουκρανίας, ενώ μικρότερες συγκεντρώσεις πραγματοποιήθηκαν σε πόλεις της ανατολικής, κατά παράδοσιν φιλορωσικής , ανατολικής Ουκρανίας.
- Από τις Βρυξέλλες ανακοινώθηκε σήμερα ότι ο πρόεδρος της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής Ζοζέ Μανουέλ Μπαρόζο συμφώνησε με τον πρόεδρο της Ουκρανίας Βίκτορ Γιανουκόβιτς για την πραγματοποίηση την ερχόμενη εβδομάδα αποστολής συμφιλίωσης της επικεφαλής της ευρωπαϊκής διπλωματίας Κάθριν Αστον στο Κίεβο.
Το αντικείμενο της επίσκεψης της κας Αστον συζητήθηκε κατά τη διάρκεια τηλεφωνικής συνομιλίας στην οποία ο κ. Μπαρόζο "επέμεινε στην ανάγκη εξεύρεσης πολιτικής λύσης στην ένταση στην Ουκρανία με την έναρξη διαλόγου με την αντιπολίτευση και την κοινωνία των πολιτών", αναφέρεται στην ανακοίνωση της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής.

Mark Almond: Well I think they hope so, and I think this is what is deeply problematic because in addition to the double standards that the EU leaders are showing when very little has taken place in Kiev that could remotely justify foreign intervention there. There have been no deaths. There have been a few heads hit with truncheons. But when we think about the deaths that took place in other countries where the European leaders ignored or even colluded with regimes that did this - Egypt for instance this summer, when perhaps 1,000 people were killed - it’s very striking the double standards and I think this is also a threat to our democracy domestically.
In the EU countries, if crowds on the street are to determine that the government that may be unpopular in the midterm should fall, where does that stop? If that crowd is stimulated with foreign support, foreign cash; I’m afraid to say that in my misspent youth I use to help take money and computers and all sorts of equipment to dissidents in Eastern Europe, so I know that perhaps the fairytale picture of just the people rising up rather looks how the people were stimulated to rise up, how there is a media campaign, how there is support base system that requires money for instance. ReplyDeleteDer ukrainische Geheimdienst ermittelt gegen Anführer der Opposition wegen eines angeblichen Umsturzversuchs. Seit Wochen wird in Kiew gegen den prorussischen Kurs der Regierung demonstriert.
In der Ukraine haben die Sicherheitsbehörden Ermittlungen gegen die Opposition wegen angeblichen Umsturzversuchs eingeleitet. Auslöser der am Sonntag verkündeten Maßnahme könnte der Aufruf des früheren Außenministers Arseni Jazenjuk zur Blockade des Regierungsviertels in Kiew gewesen sein.
Der mit staatsanwaltlichen Befugnissen ausgestattete Inlandsgeheimdienst SBU teilte nach Angaben der Agentur Interfax mit, dass ein versuchter Staatsstreich mit fünf bis zehn Jahren Gefängnis bestraft werden könne. EU foreign policy chief intends to fly to Kiev December 10....
ReplyDeleteBRUSSELS, December 09, 14:14 /ITAR-TASS/. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton can visit Kiev on Tuesday, December 10, a diplomatic source in Brussels told Itar-Tass on Monday.
At the same time, Ashton’s spokeswoman Maya Kocijancic said the agenda of the visit had not specified yet.
According to earlier reports, the EU foreign policy chief is expected to have meetings with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich, Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov, the opposition leaders and the civil society.
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Yanukovich discussed Ashton’s visit during the telephone conversation on December 8.
This trip should help search for ways to settle the political crisis and improve a dialogue between the authorities and the opposition, the European Commission president said.

ReplyDeleteThe Ukrainian opposition, led by heavyweight boxer Vitali Klitschko, is fueling the resistance movement against the government, and yet has no plan for moving forward. The government in Kiev, confident of victory, is sharpening its tone.
Every sentence German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle utters in the lobby of Kiev's five-star Hyatt Hotel betrays a sense of helplessness. He says that the "gateway to Europe is open" for the country, that there are "shared European values," that Germans are "not indifferent to Ukraine," and that it is in fact "culturally and historically" part of the old continent. Then he says "thank you so much" to the Ukrainians and walks out into the street.
It is already dark as Westerwelle walks from St. Michael's Monastery down to the Maidan Nezalezhnosti, or Independence Square. He is flanked by Vitali Klitschko of the Udar opposition party on the right and Arseniy Yatsenyuk on the left, a former foreign minister and current acting head of the Fatherland Party. He is the party's acting leader because its official leader, Yulia Tymoshenko, is now in prison. Klitschko's brother Vladimir is also there. "It was a good conversation with Westerwelle," he says. "But what's it supposed to achieve?"
"Klitschko! Klitschko!" people on the sidewalks shout to the two boxing greats, but they don't recognize the shorter man with his hands in the pockets of his black overcoat. Yanukovich despliega unidades especiales en Kiev...
ReplyDeleteHoras después de conocerse que el presidente de Ucrania, Víctor Yanukovich, apoyó la propuesta de celebrar una mesa redonda nacional entre Gobierno y oposición para solucionar la crisis causada por las multitudinarias protestas que estallaron el pasado 21 de noviembre, se ha conocido que el ministerio del Interior ha desplegado en el centro de Kiev unidades especiales de las fuerzas de seguridad.
Cientos de policías con cascos, ataviados con ropa protectora y escudos se instalaron en la plaza de la Independencia (Maidan) y la avenida Kreshchatik.
La policía antidisturbios ha comenzado a derribar las barricadas levantadas por los manifestantes antigubernamentales en la parte del sur de la capital Kiev, según ha tuiteado el líder parlamentario de oposición Vitaly Klitschko.
Por separado, la agencia de noticias Interfax informó que la policía también había comenzado la eliminación de barricadas erigidas cerca de la sede del Gobierno en otra parte de la ciudad, pero dijo que no se habían producido enfrentamientos entre ellos y los manifestantes.
El político proeuropeo opositor Klitschko criticó duramente este despliegue de las fuerzas de seguridad. Según dijo, el presidente prorruso, Viktor Yanukovich, quiere intimidar a miles de adversarios al Gobierno. "Pero nosotros nos quedamos. Insto a todos los opositores al gobierno a venir a Maidan", insistió Klitschko.
