Russia alarmed by West's turning blind eye to ultranationalists in Ukraine government

Russia expressed concern on Tuesday over a clear deficit of attention in the US and the European Union to representatives of ultranationalist forces in Ukraine’s executive bodies claiming legitimacy.

“Representatives of the All-Ukrainian Union Svoboda hold some key positions in Kiev, including the positions of deputy prime minister and defence minister,” said a commentary of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“This blatant short-sightedness is difficult to explain, and it is apparently connected with continuing devotion to geopolitical schemes with an anti-Russian tilt,” the ministry said.

  1. European Council chief barred from Russia by own colleagues...

European Council President Herman van Rompuy asked to pay an urgent visit to Russia but his EU colleagues did not let him do so, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

"European Council President Herman van Rompuy requested an urgent visit to Russia on March 17 but the European Council President was not allowed to come to Moscow. His own colleagues did not let him do so. Contending why he should learn the truth once the decision has been made," the ministry said in a commentary posted on Wednesday.

  2. EU does not want to know truth about Ukraine. -Russia's Foreign Ministry...

President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy who asked for a visit to Russia “has not been allowed to Moscow,” he had been put “on a new sanction list - of those in the European Union who are banned to travel to Russia,” Russia's Foreign Ministry reported.

“On March 17, President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy asked for an urgent visit to Russia” in order “to hear first hand information about the position of the Russian side on the crisis in Ukraine and around it, as well as the perspective of the ways out of the still deteriorating situation,” the ministry said. “Moscow has promptly responded to the request and offered to receive him on March 19.”

“However, the European Council president has not been allowed to travel to Moscow,” Russia's Foreign Ministry stressed. “His friends did not allow him [to go], assuming that he does not need to know the truth, as everything has already been decided."

  3. Ukraine journalists urge to ban right-wing Svoboda party...

Ukraine's nationalist Svoboda Party ("Freedom") has come under a barrage of criticism from the country's community and politicians who have been outraged by the thrashing that the party’s members gave to the chief of Ukraine’s state-run NTU television company Alexander Panteleymonov.

The NTU head was forced to resign under threats of violence, prompting journalists to call for a ban on Svoboda.

The journalist community in Ukraine described the attack on the CEO's office, in which a group of Svoboda men punched and yelled at Panteleymonov, forcing him to write a letter of resignation, as "thuggery."

TV channel employees told reporters that after beating the NTU chief into resignation the “deputies” dragged him outside and into the car. He hasn’t been seen ever since, they added.

According to the footage, one of the attackers was Ukrainian MP Igor Miroshnichenko, who repeatedly pushed and humiliated the CEO. The deputy denied beating Panteleymonov, saying he only wanted to tell the man his opinion of him, NTV reports.
