Ukrainians living in Crimea have lined up at banks and cash machines to withdraw money from their accounts after the regional parliament decided on Thursday to set a daily withdrawal limit per account at 300 grivna, or about 33 US dollars.
The transport of cash has been hampered after Crimea blocked transportation links with other areas in Ukraine to prepare for the referendum on Sunday.
Major banks have set a withdrawal limit since last week. Since then, people have been queueing up to withdraw the maximum amount allowed.
Crimea’s main airport in Simferopol was ordered to suspend all flights except those connecting to Moscow. Normal flight services will be restored on Monday.
