“The EU will not recognize yesterday's nor any future illegitimate and illegal ‘referenda’,” the statement says.
“The Council has decided to add a new group of individuals and entities to the list of persons, entities and bodies subject to restrictive measures,” the document emphasizes.
Earlier, a diplomatic source reported that another 13 Russian individuals and 2 Crimea-based companies were added to EU's black list.
“In light of the recent developments and in the absence of any steps towards de-escalation the Council has agreed to expand the criteria allowing individuals and entities to be subject to visa ban and asset freeze,” the statement says.
- According to the statement, this will allow imposing sanctions on individuals and organizations “responsible for actively supporting or implementing actions or policies which undermine the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine”, as well as on “legal persons, entities or bodies in Crimea or Sevastopol whose ownership has been transferred contrary to Ukrainian law”.
- In addition, the Council of the European Union urged to carry out a thorough investigation of the tragic events in Odessa of May 2. “The tragic events in Odessa of 2 May with many dead and injured must be thoroughly investigated and all those responsible brought to justice.”
- The Council has also urged to involve in the investigation the Council of Europe's International Advisory Panel “as a way to ensure its independence and transparency”.
The Council of the EU has urged all parties to implement the reached agreements. The Council has also reiterated its demand to Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine’s border.
"The EU strongly supports the holding of free and fair Ukrainian Presidential elections on 25 May, and calls on all parties to do so, in order to overcome the crisis and allow the Ukrainian people to choose their own future," the statement says. EU ministers of foreign affairs have urged to ensure safe and secure conditions for presidential nominees to campaign and said that "voters should be unimpeded in preparing for the elections".
- The final statement also fully supports OSCE’s actions in sending a thousand observers to the presidential elections in Ukraine.

La Unión Europa ha sancionado por primera vez a dos empresas por la crisis ucrania y por la decisiva intervención rusa en su desarrollo. Los ministros de Exteriores comunitarios han elevado esta mañana la presión sobre Rusia al incluir a 13 personas más en su lista negra y, como novedad, a dos empresas de Crimea expropiadas al cambiar la región de manos ucranias a rusas, según fuentes diplomáticas.
El alcance de las sanciones es algo inferior de lo que habían barajado los representantes de la UE en los últimos días. En las reuniones preparatorias, llegó a haber sobre la mesa más compañías –hasta cinco- a las que penalizar por su papel en la crisis, pero la necesidad de lograr la unanimidad de los Veintiocho ha reducido su alcance. ReplyDeleteПринятые 12 мая решения Совета ЕС по Украине вызывают глубокое недоумение упорством Евросоюза, продолжающего тиражировать пространные заявления, которые не вяжутся с реальной ситуацией в этой стране.
Брюсселю пора перестать видеть в значительной части украинского народа, не приемлющей киевские власти, «пророссийских сепаратистов» и понять, что без признания внутренней природы глубокого украинского конфликта урегулировать его не удастся. Евросоюзу следует отнестись с уважением к результатам состоявшихся референдумов жителей Донецкой и Луганской областей и содействовать тому, чтобы воля народа была реализована в диалоге между представителями Киева и Юго-Востока Украины.
Евросоюзу надо не забывать о том, что с начала мая произошел ряд событий, приведших к человеческим жертвам, в которых против мирных граждан самоназначенные украинские власти в рамках «антитеррористической операции» использовали вооруженные формирования ультрарадикалов, армию и тяжелые вооружения. Как можно называть такие действия «умеренным подходом», даже прямо поощрять их и приветствовать на этом фоне якобы исходящие из Киева «предложения» по налаживанию общенационального диалога?
В этой связи отмечаем невнятную реакцию ЕС на предложения Президента Швейцарии, Действующего председателя ОБСЕ Д.Буркхальтера о неотложных мерах по деэскалации и стабилизации ситуации на Украине через переговоры между Киевом и регионами.
Не желая признавать реалии, которые сложились на Украине в результате событий, ставших следствием антиконституционного переворота в Киеве, и продолжая порочную антироссийскую санкционную логику, Евросоюз подрывает доверие к себе как к партнеру и ставит под сомнение претензии на объективную роль в содействии урегулированию внутриукраинского конфликта.
