EU Presidency condemns deadly attack on Jewish Museum in Brussels

The rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, which is currently held by Greece, on Sunday condemned an attack at the Jewish Museum in Brussels on the previous day that killed three people.

"On behalf of the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the European Union, I express my abhorrence of and distress at the murderous attack on the Jewish Museum in Brussels, in the heart of the capital of Europe, which cost the lives of three innocent persons," Greek Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos said in a statement.

"I send the deep condolences of the Greek people to the families of the victims, and our full support for the government and people of Belgium."

"This naked act of violence, anti-Semitism and intolerance, at the moment when the European elections are being carried out, strikes at the value core of the European Union and is an affront to all European citizens," it said.

Three people, including two Israelis, were killed and another seriously injured in a shooting at the Jewish Museum in Brussels on Saturday. Police detained one suspect and were looking for a second.
