The UK believes it is necessary to hold an extraordinary meeting of the United Nations Security Council over the situation in Ukraine after a passenger plane of Malaysia Airlines crashed in the country’s east.
British Ambassador to the UN Mark Lyall Grant stated this to journalists on Thursday.
“It hasn’t yet been raised in the Council, but we had already been planning to ask for an emergency session of the Council to discuss the situation in Ukraine even before we heard the news. And that just makes that session even more urgent,” Mark Lyall Grant said in a statement.
It is already known that there were 9 British citizens on board of the crashed Boeing, according to ITV.
Britain’s Virgin Airlines announced about changes in the routes of its flights that previously used the air space over Ukraine.
Boeing en route for Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur disappeared from the radars and fell down on the territory of Ukraine. The country’s army and militias, however, deny their involvement in the tragic incident.
