  4. Malaysia Airlines Plane Crash: Flight Reportedly Shot Down Over Ukraine (LATEST UPDATES)...

Interfax news agency reports that a Malaysian jet has crashed in eastern Ukraine, near the Russian border. The Malaysian Airlines passenger plane had 295 people on board and was on its way from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

Anton Gerashenko, an adviser to Ukraine's Interior Minister, wrote on Facebook that the plane was hit by a missile fired from a Buk launcher over the country's east, the Associated Press notes.

Malaysia Airlines confirmed it had lost contact with flight MH17 and that its last position was over Ukrainian airspace.

A Russian aviation industry source told Reuters that the plane did not enter Russian airspace when expected.

Ukraine's east has seen heavy fighting between the country's military and separatists in recent days. Earlier on Thursday, the Ukrainian military claimed Russian jets had shot down a Ukrainian warplane late Wednesday night.

  6. Malaysia airliner crashes in east Ukraine near Russia border... Analysis: Jonathan Beale, BBC News...

A defence expert has told the BBC that shooting down a plane at 10,000m (9.7 miles) would have required a long- range surface-to-air missile - possibly guided by radar.

That suggests it is unlikely it could have been downed by a portable air defence missile, or Manpad, which has a much shorter range.

The only other possibility is for an aircraft at that height to be downed by a fighter carrying air-to-air missiles.

The US will have access to satellite imagery that should be able to identify ultra-violet plumes if a long-range surface-to-air missile was fired. ..............http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-28354856

  13. Telephone conversation with US President Barack Obama....

In line with a previous agreement, Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the United States Barack Obama.

The parties had a detailed discussion of the crisis in Ukraine. Vladimir Putin reiterated the need for an immediate unconditional cessation of hostilities by both sides in the southeast of Ukraine, which has already led to numerous casualties and has forced hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians to seek refuge in Russia. He stressed the inadmissibility of opening fire at Russia’s territory by the Ukrainian army, which led to casualties among Russian citizens.

The President of Russia briefed his American counterpart on the measures taken by Russia to resume consultations by the contact group with the participation of representatives from southeast Ukraine. Hope was expressed that the American side will also contribute to the start of peace talks in Ukraine.

This, in part, is the purpose of Russia’s initiative to bring OSCE observers to Russian-Ukrainian border points as soon as possible.

Vladimir Putin expressed his disappointment with the new contentious decision made by Washington to introduce so-called sectoral sanctions that would be detrimental to both bilateral ties and to efforts to find a compromise in resolving the crisis in Ukraine.

The parties also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East.

Vladimir Putin shared his impressions of the main outcome of his trip to Latin America and of the BRICS summit.

The Russia leader informed the US President of the report received from air traffic controllers immediately prior to their conversation about the crash of a Malaysian airplane over the Ukrainian territory.

  22. Russia believes NATO Secretary General trying to influence Boeing tragedy investigation....

BRUSSELS, August 4. /ITAR-TASS/. NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen is trying to pressure the investigation of the Malaysian Boeing crash in Ukraine by stating in an interview about the alleged evidence of someone’s complicity in this tragedy. Russia’s permanent delegation to NATO gave such an assessment on Monday.

“NATO Secretary General decided not to wait for the MH17 crash investigation to end, but to exert pressure on it,” a comment by the delegation says.

Chair of the State Duma’s Committee for International Affairs Alexei Pushkov has also criticized the statements by Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

“If Rasmussen had convincing evidence of militia’s fault for the downed Boeing, he would provide it,” Pushkov said in his Twitter. “However, he does not have anything but rhetoric.” “It would be better if Rasmussen explained why in Libya, after NATO’s ‘victory’, a bloody chaos came, and now the whole world and his wife is fleeing such ‘democracy’,” the lawmaker added.

    Statements of NATO Secretary General

On Sunday, in an interview to French newspaper Midi Libre, Anders Fogh Rasmussen named the separatists guilty of what has happened. NATO Secretary General characterized the July 17 tragedy as a military crime.

“We have numerous data that indicate that the guilty separatists supported by Russia,” he stressed. “While I support the conduct full and independent international investigation to establish the facts,” Fogh Rasmussen added. He declined to comment on what kind of information pointing to the guilt of one or another party was available to NATO.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said it was dangerous for international specialists to remain in the region where the security situation is deteriorating

About 80 international specialists earlier arrived at the crash site, including eight members of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission, and experts from the Netherlands and Australia.

On July 31, at their meeting in Minsk, officials from Ukraine, the OSCE and Russia, and representatives of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic agreed to cease fire within the humanitarian corridor used by OSCE monitors to access the crash site.

In the first several days after the accident, members of the local militias found fragments of more than 200 bodies at the crash site. All of them were taken to the Netherlands for identification.

Australian and Dutch experts are looking for the remains of the passengers and their personal belongings to be shipped to the Netherlands. This may take several weeks.

The Russian Defense Ministry has offered a firm response to statements by the chief of Ukraine's National Security Service Valentin Nalivaychenko, who has been trying to persuade the international commission to accept his version of the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 crash over east Ukraine in July 2014.

  32. Kiev secretly received data from MH17 crash investigators – Ukrainian hacktivists...

Ukrainian CyberBerkut hacktivists claim that they have penetrated the internal network of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry and found proof that Kiev is getting secret data from MH17 crash investigators, including information which implies its involvement.

A document, posted on the website cyber-berkut.net, and allegedly downloaded from Ukraine’s Defense Ministry network, dates back to August 7 and appears to be signed by Colonel Igor Zorin, the chief of Ukraine’s air defense forces. It is a report which maintains that a fragment of a projectile found together with the debris of the crashed flight MH17 is in fact a damage agent of a 9M38 surface-to-air guided missile belonging to the mobile air defense complex Buk or Buk M1.

Photo scans allegedly depicting the fragment in question have been also posted.

The document acknowledged that a specific rectangular shape of the fragment pointed out that it could belong to a 9N314 warhead of the 9M38 anti-aircraft missile.

It was suggested that the final conclusion could be made after analyzing the original fragments depicted in the photographs.

CyberBerkut claimed that the documents are evidence that the MH17 crash investigation commission and the Ukraine Defense Ministry have “special relations.”

Meanwhile, Ex-Air Defense deputy chief, military expert Aleksandr Tazekhulakhov told RT that judging by the photo, the fragment is deformed to the extent that it is impossible to independently define its form which is very important for the final conclusion.

“The metal fragment depicted in the photo can’t be identified as part of any ballistic missile warhead. It can be whatever,” he said. Only after several types of tests, such as ballistic, chemical and spectral analysis, can any conclusion be made.

The Dutch Safety Board, which is investigating the MH17 crash, released a preliminary report in September stating that the plane “broke up in the air probably as the result of structural damage caused by a large number of high-energy objects that penetrated the aircraft from outside.” ..............http://rt.com/news/195128-mh17-crash-cyberberkut-leak/

  33. German Intelligence Claims Pro-Russian Separatists Downed MH17...

In an Oct. 8 presentation given to members of the parliamentary control committee, the Bundestag body responsible for monitoring the work of German intelligence, BND President Gerhard Schindler provided ample evidence to back up his case, including satellite images and diverse photo evidence. The BND has intelligence indicating that pro-Russian separatists captured a BUK air defense missile system at a Ukrainian military base and fired a missile on July 17 that exploded in direct proximity to the Malaysian aircraft, which had been carrying 298 people.

    Unambiguous Findings

Evidence obtained shortly after the accident suggested the aircraft had been shot down by pro-Russian militants. Both the governments of Russia and Ukraine had mutually accused each other of responsibility for the crash. After a Dutch investigative commission reviewed the flight recorder, it avoided placing any blame for the crash. Some 189 residents of the Netherlands perished in the downing of Flight MH17.

BND's Schindler says his agency has come up with unambiguous findings. One is that Ukrainian photos have been manipulated and that there are details indicating this. He also told the panel that Russian claims the missile had been fired by Ukrainian soldiers and that a Ukrainian fighter jet had been flying close to the passenger jet were false.

"It was pro-Russian separatists," Schindler said of the crash, which involved the deaths of four German citizens. A spokesman for the German Federal Prosecutor's Office told SPIEGEL that an investigation has been opened into unknown perpetrators because of the possibility that the crash had been a war crime..............http://www.spiegel.de/international/europe/german-intelligence-blames-pro-russian-separatists-for-mh17-downing-a-997972.html

According to the newspaper, the mother of a German victim has submitted her case against Ukraine to the European Court of Human Rights last week.

The woman argued that Kiev must have closed the country’s airspace during the time of a military conflict. She also stated that the Ukrainian government did not close the country’s airspace only because of millions of US dollars received monthly for foreign flights over the country’s airspace............http://sputniknews.com/europe/20141130/1015316746.html
