MOSCOW, September 05 /ITAR-TASS/. The European Union is considering new sanctions against Russia but has no clear understanding how to stop the war in Ukraine, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
“We have said many times that any sanctions, except those approved by the U.N. Security Council, are counterproductive and unlawful,” the ministry’s deputy spokesperson Maria Zakharova told REN TV.
She said the EU was considering new sanctions because it “has no understanding how to stop the conflict, the civil war in Ukraine”.
Zakharova said, however, that “all efforts must be focused on ceasefire”.
“No one has ever become stronger from sanctions. As we have seen over the past several months, as soon as the parties to the conflict in Ukraine begin establishing contact, the talk of sanctions follows immediately,” she said.http://en.itar-tass.com/russia/748202
