Biden apologizes to Saudi Arabia over ISIS remarks

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden apologized to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday over recent remarks he made suggesting Gulf states had supported extremist groups in the region.
Biden also thanked Saudi Arabia for its support in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS/ISIL).
“Vice President Biden spoke today with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Saud al-Faisal,” Biden’s office said in a statement.

“The vice president thanked the foreign minister for Saudi Arabia’s strong support in the shared fight against ISIL [ISIS] and he clarified his recent remarks regarding the early stages of the conflict in Syria. The two agreed that the issue was closed.”
Saudi Arabia is the third state Biden has appologized to over remarks he made at Harvard University last week.

He apologized to Turkey and the United Arab Emirates last weekend for having said U.S. allies in the region were partly to blame for the rise of ISIS in Syria.

  2. Biden calls Saudi Arabia after diplomatic gaffe....

US Vice President Joe biden called Saudi Arabia's foreign affairs minister Tuesday and "clarified" his diplomatic gaffe in which he suggested Saudi Arabia and other key allies had financed ISIS, the White House said.

Biden had already apologized to the leaders of the two other countries, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, which, like Saudi Arabia are key members of the US-led coalition taking on ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

The remarks had caused consternation in the Middle East and questions in Washington as to whether they would dampen the resolve of US allies who have signed up to fight the jihadist group, which has overrun large swaths of Syria and Iraq in recent months.

The vice president thanked Foreign Affairs Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal for Saudi Arabia's cooperation in the international coalition, a White House official said.

Biden also "clarified" his remarks regarding how the conflict first unfolded in Syria, the official added, saying both officials agreed the issue had been closed..........http://www.dailystar.com.lb/News/Middle-East/2014/Oct-08/273312-biden-calls-saudi-arabia-after-diplomatic-gaffe.ashx#ixzz3FXJGQnwR
