Pentagon confirms Islamic State captured bundle of supplies meant for Kurds

The Pentagon said on Wednesday two bundles of military supplies for Kurdish fighters in the Syrian town of Kobani went astray during an air drop earlier this week, with one destroyed later by an air strike and the other taken by Islamic State militants.

"Yesterday we announced that one resupply bundle went astray and was destroyed. We have since relooked at that and we have determined that a second bundle also went astray and probably fell into enemy hands," said Army Colonel Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman.

Twenty-six other bundles of supplies were dropped to Kurds in the besieged city and reached their targets, he said.

  1. US chose wrong path, ISIL took Kobane arms, Erdoğan says ...

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said he has been proven right for his objections to the U.S. airdropping of weapons to the Syrian border town of Kobane, claiming that some of the supplies ended up in the hands of jihadist militants.

“It has emerged that what was done was wrong,” Erdoğan said on Oct. 22, referring to the airdropping of weapons by U.S.-led coalition forces intended for Kurdish militiamen and Democratic Union Party (PYD) forces battling the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Kobane............http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/us-chose-wrong-path-isil-took-kobane-arms-erdogan-says.aspx?pageID=238&nID=73335&NewsCatID=359

  2. Pentagon says one resupply bundle possibly in ISIL hands ...

A resupply bundle intended for Kurdish forces fighting ISIL militants in the strategic Syrian town of Kobani might instead have been seized by ISIL, the Pentagon said Wednesday.

The news comes one day after a video uploaded to YouTube by the militant’s social media supporters purportedly showed a parachuted resupply bundle in ISIL possession.

Pentagon spokeswoman Cmdr. Elissa Smith said that it is “possible” that the video could be that of a missing U.S. resupply bundle. Of a total of 28 bundles dropped overnight Sunday, she confirmed that two went astray.

“Although initial indications were that all but one resupply bundle was successfully delivered, a subsequent review has determined that a second resupply bundle was not recovered by anti-ISIL forces and may have been seized by ISIL,” she said.

The other bundle was “successfully destroyed” by coalition aircraft, according to Smith.

“Even with the loss of two bundles, the vast majority of the supplies intended for anti-ISL forces reached their hands,” she said. “The mission was successful.”

Deputy State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said that the loss of the two bundles is not reason to reconsider further drops to resupply Kurdish forces...............http://www.aa.com.tr/en/news/408780--pentagon-says-one-resupply-bundle-possibly-in-isil-hands
