The buildings were put on lockdown as police and tactical teams converged on the area. The wounded soldier was taken into an ambulance where medical personnel were seen giving him cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
The shooting comes two days after an Islamic convert ran down two Canadian soldiers with his car, killing one, near Montreal, before being shot and killed by police.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper was safe after being evacuated from the Parliament, his press secretary said.
A construction worker on the scene told Reuters he heard a gunshot, and then saw a man dressed in black running towards parliament with a gun.
The man stopped a car at gunpoint and hijacked it, construction worker Scott Walsh told Reuters. The driver got out safely, then the man drove the car to the Centre Block on Parliament Hill, where construction work is underway.
The gunman rushed past a woman with a child in a stroller, who ran away screaming. He did not attack the woman or child, Walsh said.

Una serie de ataques en el corazón de Ottawa han dejado este miércoles al menos un soldado muerto y una ciudad sellada -Parlamento de Canadá incluido- por policías fuertemente armados que buscan a los presuntos agresores, uno de los cuales también ha fallecido.
Por el momento no está claro el número de sospechosos, que los medios cifran en dos o tres. La Policía de Ottawa sólo ha confirmado las dos muertes y ha dicho además que investiga dos incidentes armados: en el Memorial de Guerra -donde fue atacado el uniformado fallecido- y en el Parlamento aledaño. Inicialmente había dicho que también se había producido un tercer incidente en un cercano centro comercial.

Ottawa : l’information sur deux autres blessés confirmée ...
ReplyDeleteLes médecins d'Ottawa ont fait état de deux autres blessés dans une série d'incidents liée à une fusillade qui a eu lieu mercredi matin dans la capitale canadienne. Selon les données, le soldat de la garde d'honneur qui état blessé est décédé à l'hôpital.
La police a déclaré que la fusillade s’était produite près du parlement du pays, près du Monument commémoratif de guerre, non loin du parlement et dans le centre commercial Rideau Centre.
Les policiers indiquent qu’il pourrait s’agir de plusieurs délinquants, l'un d'eux a été déjà tué, les autres sont recherchés.

US Offers Assistance to Canada in Wake of Shooting in Ottawa ...
ReplyDeleteThe White House has offered assistance to Canadian officials in the wake of shooting in Ottawa, US President Barack Obama keeps in touch with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Wednesday.
"Officials inside the US government have been in close touch with their Canadian counterparts today to offer assistance that includes officials here in the White House,” Earnest said.
“The President did connect with the Canadian prime-minister,” Earnest added.
Details of the conversation will be published later.
Earnest said that Canadian authorities are still investigating the shooting and declined to say whether US or Canadian officials believed the shooting could be a terrorist attack

ReplyDeleteCet incident est un choc pour tout le monde au Canada. Etant donné que ce genre d’attaques est plutôt rare ici, cette fusillade a évidemment fait beaucoup de bruit. Et ce qui sera au cœur de la discussion, ce n’est pas spécialement cette attaque, mais la question du trafic d’armes.
Il y a beaucoup de spéculations à ce sujet sur Twitter, et dans d’autres réseaux sociaux. Mais ces versions ne sont généralement pas confirmées. Selon certaines informations, le criminel aurait sauté à travers la clôture et blessé le gardien. Selon d’autres versions, il portait une écharpe avec des inscriptions en arabe. Mais ce ne sont que des rumeurs.
Étant donné que plusieurs personnes ont participé à la fusillade, cet incident ressemble de plus en plus à une opération bien coordonnée et planifiée.

Ottawa police lift blockades in downtown, Parliament still shut ...
ReplyDeleteOttawa police said late on Wednesday they had lifted safety blockades in the downtown core which were imposed after a soldier was killed and a gunman was shot dead in Parliament.
"The ongoing police investigation in the downtown core has determined that there no longer exists a threat to public safety in the area," the police said in a statement.
"However, the police operation continues on Parliament Hill and as such the Hill continues to be off limits to the public."

Le Canada est en émoi après la fusillade de mercredi 22 octobre au Parlement d’Ottawa et le décès d’un soldat devant le monument aux morts de la ville. L'auteur a été identifié : il s’agit de Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, un Canadien de 32 ans, sous surveillance des services de sécurité en raison de sa conversion à l'islam radical et de sa proximité avec les thèses du jihad. Il a été abattu par le chef de la sécurité du bâtiment.
Selon les premiers éléments des enquêteurs, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau a agi sans complices.
