Syria Demands UN Sanctions Over Israeli Airstrikes on Damascus (Ministry)

The Syrian Foreign Ministry has asked the United Nations (UN) to impose sanctions on Israel over its airstrikes on the Damascus International Airport, SANA news agency reports.
“The Syrian government called for imposing deterring sanctions on Israel, which did not hide its policy in supporting terrorism, calling also on taking all procedures, in accordance with the UN Charter, to prevent Israel from repeating such attacks,” the ministry said in a letter as cited by SANA Sunday.
The letter was written in two copies, one of which was sent to the UN Secretary-General and the other to the Chairman of the UN Security Council.

According to the letter, Israel committed a “heinous crime” against Syrian sovereignty having launched airstrikes on safe areas in the Dimus region and the Damascus International Airport on Sunday. According to the message, the Israeli air attack is seen as support to the armed terrorist groups in Syria, especially in light of recent advances the Syrian army made in a number of areas..................http://sputniknews.com/middleeast/20141208/1015599087.html

  3. Israeli airstrike in Syria targeted 'terrorist' weapons delivery...

Without giving an explicit reason for Sunday’s airstrike near Damascus airport, Israel stressed on Monday that it has a policy of preventing arms transfers to militant groups such as Hezbollah.

Israel has launched a series of strikes inside Syria since the armed uprising erupted there in 2011, including raids reportedly targeting weapons bound for Damascus ally Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Intelligence Minister Yuval Steinitz refused to comment directly on Sunday's incident, as was also the case with Israeli officials questioned in the aftermath of previous strikes.

"We have a firm policy of preventing all possible transfers of sophisticated weapons to terrorist organisations," Steinitz told public radio in response to a question about the strikes, and apparently referring to Hezbollah..........http://www.france24.com/en/20141208-israeli-airsrtike-syria-targeted-terrorist-weapons-delivery/
