2 Chinese vessels intrude into Japan waters around Senkakus (Senkaku/Diaoyu issue)

Two China Coast Guard ships intruded Wednesday into Japanese territorial waters around the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea, the Japan Coast Guard said.

The intrusion, the 21st of its kind this year, took place at around 9 a.m. Chinese ships last entered territorial waters around the Japanese-controlled uninhabited islands last Friday.

When a Japan Coast Guard patrol ship called on the vessels, identified as the Haijing 2307 and 2308, to leave Japanese waters, one of the Chinese ships responded in both Chinese and Japanese that the sea area falls under Chinese jurisdiction and asked the Japanese vessel to leave, according to the 11th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters in Naha, Okinawa Prefecture.
