US to Continue Supplying Syrian Rebels With Ammunition After 50-Ton Airdrop

According to the Pentagon, the United States will continue providing military aid to Syrian rebels as it's part of the US program to assist "forces who are fighting ISIL".

The United States will continue providing military aid to rebel forces in Syria in the wake of a 50-ton airdrop of munitions in the northern part of the country, Operation Inherent Resolve spokesman Steve Warren told reporters on Tuesday.

“This [50-ton] drop <…> is part of our program to train and equip forces who are fighting ISIL [in Syria],” Warren said. “The next obvious question is will this continue? Yes.”

Warren added that the Unites States has spent $300 million out of $500 million allocated for the train and equip program.

US and Russian authorities have planned more meetings to discuss mechanisms to avoid the two countries’ forces coming into conflict in Syria, according to the spokesman.

“We have sat down with the Russians to establish some safety protocols,” Warren said. “As you know, we have had two meetings already with the Russians on this matter. I think there are future meetings scheduled.”
