Normandy Quartet Notes That Arms Withdrawal in Ukraine Proceeds on Time

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that foreign ministers from the so-called Normandy Quartet are pleased to note that the implementation of measures on the withdrawal of weapons under 100mm caliber and tanks is generally carried out in accordance with the schedule in eastern Ukraine.

Foreign ministers from the so-called Normandy Quartet, consisting of Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany, noted during their meeting on Friday that the withdrawal of weapons from the contact line in East Ukraine is proceeding on schedule, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"We were pleased to note that the implementation of measures on the withdrawal of weapons under 100mm caliber and tanks is generally carried out in accordance with the schedule," Lavrov told reporters following the meeting.

The pullout of weaponry under 100mm caliber must be completed by November 12, and the quartet urges the conflicting sides to fulfill their obligations on time, he added.

"It is obvious for us that elections in certain territories of Donbas are to be based first of all on the Ukrainian law and criteria of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR)," he said. That is why it is essential that representatives of international organizations arrive in Minsk to join the relevant working groups."

"The Minsk agreements describe this issue absolutely clear," he said, adding that the elections should be organized and controlled by the Central Election Commission........http://tass.ru/en/world/834548
