Turks traveling to Russia being denied entry, report says

A total of 40 Turkish citizens were denied entry to Russia despite the visa exemption agreement between the two countries since the Turkish air force downed a Russian jet on Tuesday, the news portal CNN Turk's website reported on Thursday.

Citing diplomatic sources, the report said the Turkish citizens, who were denied entry for various reasons, were sent back to Turkey.

Following the diplomatic crisis between Turkey and Russia after Turkish F-16 jets shot down a Russian-made SU-24 near the Syrian border on Tuesday on the grounds that it violated Turkish air space despite warnings, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov have advised Russians not to visit Turkey, adding that the threat of terrorism there was no less than in Egypt, where a bomb attack brought down a Russian passenger plane last month.

Several Russian tour operators declared that they had halted the sales of tour packages to Turkey after the incident.
