Russia-Proposed 8-Hour Aleppo Humanitarian Pauses 'Positive Step' - Mogherini

The announcement of Russia-proposed humanitarian pauses in Syria’s Aleppo is a positive step, but it remains to be seen whether eight hours is long enough to deliver aid, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said Monday.

Earlier in the day, Lt. Gen. Sergei Rudskoy, chief of the Russian General Staff's Main Operational Directorate, announced a humanitarian pause to be introduced for eight hours on October 20.

"It can be a start, there are discussions ongoing if the eight hours are enough for the convoys to deliver the aid to east Aleppo or not… For sure it’s a positive step but again the last assessment we had from the UN agencies was that 12 hours are needed so I believe there will be a little bit of work… to find common ground," Mogherini told a press conference.
