Israeli President Reuven Rivlin on Sunday thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a phone conversation for Ankara's assistance in fighting the wildfires that swept through Israel over the several previous days.
Erdogan, meanwhile, told Israel's president that laws involving Muslim prayers – such as a bill that would ban the use of loudspeakers for mosques' calls to prayer – be "consisdereed with sensitivity, as is appropriate for the topics of freedom of expression and freedom of worship."
Last week, Turkey denounced the bill as "unacceptable" and an "insult."
Praising the Turkish firefighters' courage and ability, Rivlin said that "we very much appreciate what they are doing."
