Poland to lower retirement age for both men and women

President Andrzej Duda on Monday signed a bill which will lower the retirement age to 65 for Polish men and 60 for women.


The bill, which will become effective on Oct. 1, 2017, will overturn a law introduced by the previous government to rise the retirement age for both men and women to 67. 

Lowering retirement age was a key promise made by the Law and Justice Party during its campaign in 2015 elections. 

The presidential draft on the retirement age was submitted to the Sejm(lower house) for review in late November last year.

The bill was passed by the Sejm in November and approved by the Senate in early December.
