Senate to Vote on Nord Stream 2 Sanctions as U.S., Russia Talk

--

The Senate is poised to vote this week on a bill to impose tough new sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, as the U.S. and Russian officials are in the early stages of discussions intended to ease tensions over Russia’s troop buildup around Ukraine.

There is broad congressional opposition to the gas pipeline from Russia to Germany, but some Democrats are balking at going forward at a time when President Joe Biden’s administration needs to present a united front with U.S. European allies as it engages in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s government.
