A video which appears to show a Syrian rebel taking a bite from the heart of a dead soldier has been widely condemned.
US-based Human Rights Watch identified the rebel as Abu
Sakkar, a well-known insurgent from the city of Homs, and said his
actions were a war crime. The main Syrian opposition coalition said he would be put on trial.
The video, which cannot be independently authenticated, seems to show him cutting out the heart.
"I swear to God we will eat your hearts and your livers, you soldiers of Bashar the dog," the man says referring to President Bashar al-Assad as he stands over the soldier's corpse.
Human Rights Watch (HRW) says Abu Sakkar is the leader of a group called the Independent Omar al-Farouq Brigade.
"The mutilation of the bodies of enemies is a
war crime. But the even more serious issue is the very rapid descent
into sectarian rhetoric and violence," HRW's Peter Bouckaert told
Reuters news agency.
HRW said those committing war crimes on either side had to
know that there was no impunity and that they would be brought to
account.The human rights group said Abu Sakkar had been filmed before, firing rockets into Shia areas of Lebanon and posing with the bodies of guerrillas from the Lebanese Hezbollah movement killed fighting alongside Syrian government forces.
The video, posted on Sunday, is one of the most gruesome to emerge among the many thrown up by more than two years of carnage in Syria, says the BBC's Jim Muir in Beirut.
The UN says 70,000 people have been killed since the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad began in March 2011. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights puts the death toll at more than 80,000.
Many Syrians have fled the country to escape the fighting and more than a million are registered as refugees, according the UN. At least 300,000 are estimated to be living in Turkey.

Syrian rebels including the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front have counter-attacked east of Damascus to retake a town that served as a conduit for arms from Jordan into the capital before it was seized by government forces last month, rebel sources said.
The rebels' struggle to end four decades of Assad family rule has been complicated in part by internal divisions along ideological and political lines, as well as a shortage of heavy weaponry that could decisively turn the tide of conflict.
But in a rare move, brigades operating in Ghouta, a largely agricultural region on the eastern outskirts of Damascus, have united under one command to wrest back the town of Otaiba, two miles (3 km) northeast of Damascus international airport.
"This is a huge target no brigade can deliver on its own, even al-Nusra cannot do it alone, so we all agreed to unite to retake it," said a commander whose brigade is one of the 23 taking part in the battle.
"With God's will this will be a decisive battle in rural Damascus that will stop the advance of the regime army and reopen the supply route."
Brigades from the Western-backed rebel General Command and Islamist units joined forces over the weekend and pledged to share weapons and fighters. They took as their flag a white banner with the Muslim declaration of faith: "There is no god but God; Mohammad is God's prophet".
"We are fighting for the same goal and that is to topple Assad - so why shouldn't we unite?" said a commander from an Islamist brigade involved in the battle.
Government forces have regained the initiative in the past few weeks, pushing rebels from areas close to central Damascus.

ReplyDeleteΣοκ στον κόσμο έχει προκαλέσει το βίντεο στο οποίο απεικονίζεται αντάρτης να αφαιρεί την καρδιά ενός Σύριου στρατιώτη και να τρώει κομμάτι της. Το Παρατηρητήριο Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων έχει ταυτοποιήσει τον αντάρτη ως τον Αμπού Σακάρ, ο οποίος είναι γνωστός και κατάγεται από την πόλη Χομς. Παράλληλα τόνισε πως η πράξη του αποτελεί έγκλημα πολέμου. Η αντιπολίτευση της Συρίας από την πλευρά της τόνισε πως ο Σακάρ θα πρέπει να περάσει από δίκη.
Στο βίντεο το οποίο προς το παρόν δεν μπορεί να το επιβεβαιώσει κανείς ανεξάρτητα, φέρεται ο αντάρτης να κόβει την καρδιά του στρατιώτη. «Ορκίζομαι στο θεό πως θα φάω όλες τις καρδιές και τα συκώτια σας, εσάς στρατιώτες του Άσαντ του σκύλου» λέει ο αντάρτης αναφερόμενος στον πρόεδρο της Συρίας Μπασάρ αλ Άσαντ και στο στρατό του.
Το Παρατηρητήριο Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων λέει πως ο Αμπού Σακάρ είναι ο ηγέτης μιας ομάδας που ονομάζεται Ανεξάρτητη Ταξιαρχία του Ομάρ αλ Φαρούκ.
"Ο ακρωτηριασμός των νεκρών σωμάτων του εχθρού συνιστά έγκλημα πολέμου. Αυτό όμως που είναι εξίσου σοβαρό είναι η θρησκευτική ρητορική και η βία" δήλωσε στο Ρόιτερς ο Πίτερ Μπουκαέρτ σύμφωνα με το βρετανικό πρακτορείο ειδήσεων. Το Παρατηρητήριο Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων πάντως τονίζει πως αμφότεροι οι μαχόμενοι στο συριακό μέτωπο οφείλουν να ξέρουν πως δεν υπάρχει ατιμωρησία όταν τελούνται εγκλήματα πολέμου και πως θα τεθούν ενώπιον του νόμου. Ακόμη ο μη κυβερνητικός οργανισμός λέει πως ο Αμπού Σακάρ έχει και στο παρελθόν βιντεοσκοπηθεί να εκτοξεύει ρουκέτες σε σιίτες αντάρτες στο Λίβανο και να ποζάρει με νεκρούς αντάρτες της Χεζμπολάχ. Το βίντεο το οποίο δημοσιεύθηκε την Κυριακή κι είναι αυτό που αποδεικνύει με τον χειρότερο τρόπο τα φρικιαστικά εγκλήματα που λαμβάνουν χώρα στον πόλεμο.
Στο μεταξύ ο αριθμός των νεκρών από την εξέγερση στη Συρία είναι τουλάχιστον 94.000 και μπορεί να ξεπερνά τις 120.000 σύμφωνα με το Συριακό Παρατηρητήριο Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων.

Particulièrement choquante, la vidéo montre un rebelle syrien qui arrache le coeur d'un soldat et le porte à sa bouche. Human Rights Watch exhorte une nouvelle fois l'ONU à saisir la Cour pénale internationale au sujet de la Syrie.
Une des pires vidéos du conflit syrien circule sur la Toile. On y voit un homme arracher le coeur et le foie d'un soldat mort: selon l'ONG Human Rights Watch, il s'agirait d'Abu Sakkar, chef du mouvement d'opposition Brigade indépendante Omar al-Farouq. L'accès restreint au pays et les conditions de sécurité rendent toutefois l'authentification de ce type de vidéo par les organismes indépendants difficile.
Après la mutilation du corps vêtu comme un soldat de l'armée syrienne, il s'exprime devant la caméra: "Je vous promets devant Dieu, vous les soldats de Bachar, vous les chiens, que nous mangerons vos coeurs et vos foies". Il porte ensuite l'organe à sa bouche. La vidéo est également marquante par l'incitation sectaire, explique la BBC: Abu Shakkar exhorte ses partisans à découper et manger le coeur des Alaouites, le groupe ethnique dont est issu Bachar al-Assad.

La nature des liens entre l'armée syrienne libre et cette brigade n'est pas clairement identifiée. D'après son site Internet, le groupe formé de plusieurs bataillons de Baba Amr existe depuis octobre 2012. L'homme qui se fait appeler Abu Shakkar serait un ancien de la Brigade al-Farouq qui s'est battue à Baba Amr, ancien bastion de la rebellion à Homs. L'ONG l'a identifié sur d'autres vidéos postées par la Brigade indépendante Omar al-Farouq. Sur l'une d'elles, on le voit charger des roquettes avant le bombardement de villages chiites libanais à la frontière avec la Syrie. Sur une autre, il est filmé à côté de cadavres, qu'il dit appartenir au Hezbollah libanais.
L'Armée syrienne libre a dénoncé cet acte, le qualifiant de contraire à ses valeurs et ses principes. Human Rights Watch rappelle que la mutilation de corps est interdite par les lois de la guerre et renouvelle sa demande à l'ONU de saisir la Cour pénale internationale au sujet de la situation en Syrie.

Syrian rebel atrocity video: No apology for ‘revenge’, more clips promised.....
ReplyDeleteA chilling tape of a Syrian rebel apparently eating the lung of a slain government soldier has prompted calls on the opposition to prevent such abuses. However the fighter has also reportedly had support from within his ranks for his “act of revenge.”
The video, 27 seconds of footage, was first spotted in April, with the TIME magazine conducting a probe into whether it had been faked for propaganda purposes. On Sunday, the clip emerged on a pro-regime website, triggering a wave of rage online.
Human rights organizations, as well as his fellow rebels, have condemned the rebel.
However, Khalid Hamad, known by his war nickname Abu Sakkar, didn’t seem to regret his behavior much, labeling it as revenge: “an eye for eye, a tooth for tooth.”
In an interview with TIME magazine, he commented on his actions: “We opened his cell phone, and I found a clip of a woman and her two daughters fully naked and he was humiliating them, and poking a stick here and there.”
Hamad says as a Sunni he hates Alawite Muslims, which once again signals of the increasingly sectarian side of the Syrian conflict. UN warned of it as early as in December last year.
“Hopefully we will slaughter all of [the Alawites]. I have another video clip that I will send to them. In the clip, I am sawing another shabiha [pro-government militiaman] with a saw. The saw we use to cut trees. I sawed him into small pieces and large ones,” Hamad said in the interview. Une vidéo montrant un rebelle syrien éviscérant un soldat et faisant mine de croquer ses organes a suscité mardi une vague de condamnations, l'homme présentant son acte comme une vengeance contre les exactions du régime. Pour Fabrice Balanche, directeur du Groupe de recherches pour la Méditerranée et le Moyen-Orient (GREMMO), ces images ternissent un peu plus la réputation de la rébellion. Interview.
Deux jours que la vidéo d'un chef rebelle en Syrie circule. Elle le montre qui arrache à un soldat du régime de Bachar al-Assad son cœur et son foie et suscite l'indignation dans la communauté syrienne comme internationale. Que viennent raconter ces images du conflit ?
- Ces images, comme toutes les autres vidéos, servent aux rebelles à se mettre en valeur, à se faire de la publicité. Elles montrent à leurs sponsors des pays du Golfe, qui les financent via des fondations privées, que leur argent est bien utilisé. C'est une manière de montrer qu'ils font du bon boulot, et que par conséquent on peut continuer à leur faire confiance et à leur donner de l'argent.
Le commandant rebelle que l'on voit sur les images serait Abu Sakkar, de son vrai nom Khalid al Hamad. Il aurait appartenu à la brigade Farouk, l'un des principaux mouvements de la rébellion syrienne, avant de créer sa propre branche dissidente, plus radicalement violente. Peut-on dire que c'est une action isolée ?
- Il n'y a pas d'organisation centralisée, l'Armée syrienne libre n'existe pas. Il y a un état-major en Turquie qui fait paravent, puis sur le terrain, 200.000 combattants en armes qui appartiennent à des brigades locales sans hiérarchie.
Les divisions ne sont pas rares. Parfois même, elles sont provoquées par les bailleurs de fonds eux-mêmes ! Par exemple, lorsque les Qataris souhaitent mettre la main sur une brigade, celle-ci propose son aide au plus offrant, quitte à semer le désordre à l'intérieur même d'une brigade.
Il peut y avoir aussi des divergences éthique et religieuse. Certains se radicalisent, prennent un caractère communautaire anti-chiite et commettent des exactions. C'est le cas de la brigade Omar al-Farouk, du nom du deuxième calife de l'islam, qui a particulièrement maltraité les chiites, partisans d'Ali écarté de la succession. Cette brigade est particulièrement anti-chiite et le fait que le soldat éviscéré soit un Alaouite [confession du clan Assad, NDLR] n'est pas un hasard.

«Αρχιπέλαγος βασανιστηρίων» η Συρία.....
ReplyDeleteΈγγραφα και εργαλεία βασανιστηρίων βρήκε το Παρατηρητήριο Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων στα γραφεία των υπηρεσιών ασφαλείας στην πόλη Ράκα της Συρίας, τα οποία επιβεβαιώνουν τις καταγγελίες για βασανιστήρια κρατουμένων. Η οργάνωση κάνει λόγο για «αρχιπέλαγος βασανιστηρίων», αναφέροντας ότι δεκάδες χιλιάδες άνθρωποι κρατούνται και κακοποιούνται στην Συρία.
«Στα γραφεία των υπηρεσιών ασφαλείας της συριακής κυβέρνησης είδαμε έγγραφα, κελιά, αίθουσες ανακρίσεων και εργαλεία βασανιστηρίων που αποδεικνύουν τις καταγγελίες για βασανιστήρια των πρώην κρατουμένων, από την αρχή της εξέγερσης στη Συρία», δήλωσε ο Ναντίμ Χούρι εκπρόσωπος της οργάνωσης. Η Ράκα, στη βόρεια Συρία, είναι η πρώτη πρωτεύουσα επαρχίας που κατέλαβαν τον Μάρτιο οι αντικαθεστωτικοί.
Ανάμεσα στα εργαλεία που βρέθηκαν ήταν και αρκετά «bsat al-reeh», σε μορφή σταυρού, τα οποία χρησιμοποιούνται για να ακινητοποιούν, να τεντώνουν και να στρίβουν τα άκρα. «Γνωρίζουμε πως οι άνθρωποι υφίστανται αυτή τη μεταχείριση», τόνισε η Λάμα Φακίχ, που εργάζεται στην οργάνωση. Η ίδια έχει μιλήσει με πολλούς κρατούμενους που «διαδήλωναν ειρηνικά και πραγματικά έπεσαν θύματα κακομεταχείρισης».
Πρώην κρατούμενος περιέγραψε στο Παρατηρητήριο πως ο ίδιος και ο αδελφός του βασανίστηκαν με διαφορετικούς τρόπους. «Του έκαναν ηλεκτροσόκ για τρεις με τέσσερις ώρες και μετά τον έβαλαν στην απομόνωση. Με ανάγκασαν να ακούω τις κραυγές του αδελφού μου. Αυτό ήταν χειρότερο από το να με χτυπούσαν», περιέγραψε ο 24χρονος Αχμεντ. «Ήθελαν να τους πω ποιος διαδήλωνε μαζί μου», πρόσθεσε.
Το Παρατηρητήριο έχει καταγγείλει παραβιάσεις των ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων τόσο από το καθεστώς της Δαμασκού, όσο και από τους αντάρτες, ενώ το περασμένο έτος δημοσίευσε τον παραπάνω χάρτη, καταγράφοντας τα κέντρα βασανιστηρίων στη χώρα. (Τα καινούργια στοιχεία, που αναφέρονται σε αυτό το άρθρο, δεν έχουν δημοσιευθεί μέχρι στιγμής στην ιστοσελίδα του.)
Τώρα, καλεί τις οργανώσεις της αντιπολίτευσης που ελέγχουν την πόλη να προστατεύσουν τις αποδείξεις για βασανιστήρια και αυθαίρετες κρατήσεις στα τοπικά γραφεία των δυνάμεων ασφαλείας.
«Η καταστροφή ή η λανθασμένη χρήση αυτών των εγγράφων και των αντικειμένων θα μειώσει την πιθανότητα να προσαχθούν ενώπιον της δικαιοσύνης οι υπεύθυνοι τόσο σοβαρών εγκλημάτων», υπογραμμίζει η οργάνωση.

Ανατίναξη λεωφορείου στη Συρία - 19 νεκροί...
ReplyDeleteΤουλάχιστον 19 άνθρωποι, επιβάτες λεωφορείου, σκοτώθηκαν σε μια έκρηξη νάρκης τοποθετημένης στο δρόμο στην κεντρική Συρία - ανέφεραν οι τοπικές αρχές.
Ο εκρηκτικός μηχανισμός βρισκόταν στην άκρη του δρόμου. Ενεργοποιήθηκε από τηλεχειριστήριο, τη στιγμή που διερχόταν το λεωφορείο.
Στη Συρία, όπου οι αντάρτες διεξάγουν ένοπλο αγώνα κατά της κυβέρνησης, με υποστήριξη από το εξωτερικό, έχουν πυκνώσει οι τρομοκρατικές επιθέσεις εναντίον αμάχων.

Syrian rebels urge boycott of any conference involving Iran...
ReplyDeleteAFP - More than 100 senior officers of the Free Syrian Army have signed a petition urging a boycott of any peace conference on their country if Iran is involved, an opposition general said Wednesday.
The statement "condemned once more the criminal regime of Assad and any conference which will open any path other than the toppling of the regime."
It accused Tehran, a key ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, of being a "serious part of the problem," and added that it "should not be involved in any way in any conference on Syria."
The officers sought a "boycott of any conference or discussion which involves Iran in one way or the other."
The statement came after French President Francois Hollande, who has demanded "coercive" UN measures against Syria if it does not hand over its chemical weapons, said Iran was welcome to attend an international peace initiative on Syria, dubbed Geneva-2, if it helped in a political transition in Syria.
"I want to emphasize that anyone who will accept and request the presence of Iran in such a conference will be considered as an enemy of the Syrian people," said Methkal Albatich, a general in the Free Syrian Army.
"How could we accept the participation of a country directly involved in killing us?" he said.
"More than 140 countries and organisations are involved in the Friends of Syria conferences. All of them combined, their help is less than what Iran alone provides for Assad," he said.
The general also said there were several foreign fighters fomenting dissent among the opposition fighters but they did not pose a real threat as they were few in number.
"Some of these extremists come from Chechnya or from Iraq. They say they come to help the Syrian revolution, but they have another agenda. Their numbers are very few, but the Assad regime has a political interest to make the world believe they are many.
"They are not a threat: after Assad falls, we will take care of them in two days. But first, we have to focus on Assad," he added.

Syrie: les rebelles accusés par une ONG de dizaines d'exécutions de civils...
ReplyDeleteJihadistes et insurgés ont exécuté 67 civils et pris en otage 200 personnes de la communauté religieuse du clan Assad en Syrie, dans les crimes les plus marquants commis par l'opposition armée depuis le début du conflit, affirme vendredi une ONG internationale, Human Rights Watch (HRW).
Dénonçant des "crimes contre l'Humanité", Human Rights Watch (HRW) a affirmé que des jihadistes et des rebelles avaient tué le 4 août au moins 190 civils, dont 67 exécutés alors qu'ils n'étaient pas armés, et pris en otage 200 personnes dans des villages alaouites de la province côtière de Lattaquié, fief du président Bachar al-Assad.
Dans son rapport, HRW explique avoir interrogé des survivants de l'attaque et avoir compilé une liste de noms des victimes, parmi lesquelles se trouvaient 57 femmes et 18 enfants.
Selon HRW, basée à New York, au moins 20 groupes, principalement des jihadistes affiliés à Al-Qaïda, ont participé à l'opération de conquête de ces villages, qui ont ensuite été repris par l'armée.
L'Etat islamique en Irak et au Levant (EIIL) et un autre groupe détiennent toujours les plus de 200 civils, en majorité des femmes et des enfants, selon l'organisation.
Les alaouites -une branche du chiisme à laquelle appartiennent la plupart des cadres du régime- sont minoritaires en Syrie. Les rebelles qui tentent de renverser le régime sont en grande majorité des sunnites.
