  1. Talks resume over Iran’s disputed nuclear programme ...

Talks between Iran and world powers resumed Wednesday in Geneva in hope of reaching a landmark deal on Tehran’s nuclear programme as Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, vowed not to back down from exercising Iran's nuclear "rights".

Iran and world powers resumed talks on Wednesday in hopes of striking a landmark deal on Tehran's nuclear programme that satisfies sceptical hardliners in Washington, Israel and within the Islamic republic.

As the negotiations got under way in Geneva, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, vowed not to back down from exercising Iran's nuclear "rights" before slamming Israel for trying to “torpedo” the negotiations.

"I insist on not retreating one step from the rights of the Iranian nation," Khamenei, 74, said in a live TV address. Khamenei went on to say that Israel was “doomed to collapse” and that its leaders were "not worthy” of being called human.

A French government spokeswoman called the Israel comments "unacceptable”, adding that they would “complicate the negotiations" on Iran's nuclear issues.......http://www.france24.com/en/20131120-Iran-talks-nuclear-USA-Israel-diplomacy?ns_campaign=editorial&ns_source=RSS_public&ns_mchannel=RSS&ns_fee=0&ns_linkname=20131120_Iran_talks_nuclear_USA_Israel_diplomacy

  2. U.S. says 'very hard' to clinch deal as Iran nuclear talks resume...

(Reuters) - Major powers resumed talks on Wednesday on a preliminary agreement to curb Iran's nuclear program with the United States warning it would be "very hard" to clinch a breakthrough deal this week and Tehran flagging "red lines".

Each side appeared to tempering anticipation of an imminent agreement after the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany came close to winning concessions from Tehran in the last round of negotiations two weeks ago.

Policymakers from the six governments have since said an interim accord on confidence-building steps could finally be within reach to defuse a decade-old standoff and dispel the specter of a wider Middle East war over the Islamic Republic's nuclear ambitions......http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/11/21/us-iran-nuclear-idUSBRE9AI0CV20131121?feedType=RSS&feedName=worldNews

  3. Talks between Iran and 5+1 to continue...

GENEVA, November 21. /ITAR-TASS/. Talks between Iran and the six world powers (five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) will continue in Geneva on Thursday amid optimism and heavy security measures.

The six world powers and Iran reaffirmed their commitment to moving forward, Michael Mann, the spokesperson for the Catherine Ashton, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said after a plenary meeting on Wednesday.

Mann said some disagreements remained since last meeting on November 7-9, but the sides were determined to work towards a positive outcome and expressed hope that the P5+1 and Iran would reach a viable solution.

He declined, however, to speculate about an opportunity to have a ministerial meeting in Geneva this time. He said he knew nothing about the arrival of foreign ministers and did not want to make forecasts. A source from the Iranian delegation either refused to comment on whether the meeting of political directors would be upgraded to the ministerial level.......

  4. Netanyahu lobbies in Russia against Iran deal: Putin keeps cards close to chest ....

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged Russia on Wednesday to insist world powers set tough terms for Iran in any deal reached in the standoff over Tehran's nuclear program.

After failing to convince Washington that global powers are pursuing a bad deal, Netanyahu flew to Moscow to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin as envoys from Russia, the United States, China, France, Britain and Germany met Iranian negotiators in Geneva.

After meeting with Putin, Netanyahu suggested Israel would be satisfied only if Iran ended all its nuclear work and cited a deal reached on the destruction of all Syria's chemical arms as a model to follow.

Accompanied to Moscow by Deputy Foreign Minister Ze'ev Elkin, who was born and raised in the Soviet Union, Netanyahu stressed the bonds connecting Israel and Russia. "Our nations share a basic sympathy towards each other," the PM said at a joint press conference after meeting with Putin. "There are one million Russian speakers in Israel. The speaker of our Knesset speaks Russian and so does our foreign minister and his deputy, among many others. But it is not only them – It is us, all of [Israel]."

"Not on every issue are Israel and Russia in agreement," said the PM, but on core issues the nations ''share a deep understanding."

"This was evident in our conversation today about issues which relate to Israel's security, and to a certain extent to Russia's as well, issues that affect the entire Middle East and the entire world," said Netanyahu........http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/1.559264
