Σε ομιλία του σε συνέδριο για την μεταρρύθμιση της ΕΕ, ο Osborne, ένας στενός σύμμαχος του Πρωθυπουργού David Cameron, θα πει ότι το κυβερνών Συντηρητικό κόμμα είναι αποφασισμένο, εάν επανεκλεγεί το 2015, να τηρήσει την υπόσχεσή του για επαναδιαπραγμάτευση των σχέσεων ΕΕ-Βρετανίας πριν προσφύγει σε δημοψήφισμα για την παραμονή ή όχι της χώρας στην ΕΕ.
«Η αποφασιστικότητά μας είναι σαφής: να υλοποιήσουμε τη μεταρρύθμιση και εν συνεχεία να αφήσουμε το λαό να αποφασίσει», θα τονίσει ο Βρετανός, σύμφωνα με αποσπάσματα της ομιλίας του που διέρρευσαν από το γραφείο του.
«Το σημερινό status quo είναι αυτό που καταδικάζει τους λαούς της Ευρώπης σε μια συνεχιζόμενη οικονομική κρίση και συνεχή κάμψη. Και έτσι υπάρχει μια απλή επιλογή για την Ευρώπη: Μεταρρύθμιση ή παρακμή», τόνισε.
Σύμφωνα με τον αξιωματούχο, ο Osborne θα καταστήσει σαφές ότι θέλει η Βρετανία να παραμείνει στην ΕΕ, αλλά θα υπογραμμίσει ότι χρειάζονται ζωτικές μεταρρυθμίσεις για αυτό».
«Γνωρίζαμε ότι υπήρχε πρόβλημα ανταγωνιστικότητας στην Ευρώπη πριν την κρίση», θα υπογραμμίσει.
- «Αλλά η κρίση έχει επιταχύνει δραματικά τις μετατοπίσεις των τεκτονικών οικονομικών πλακών που βλέπουν την εξουσία να μετακινείται προς τα ανατολικά και τα νότια στον πλανήτη μας», θα πει, αναφερόμενος στην Κίνα και την Ινδία.
- «Όπως τόνισε και η Angela Merkel, η Ευρώπη αντιστοιχεί στο 7% του παγκόσμιου πληθυσμού, στο 25% της οικονομίας και στο 50% των δαπανών κοινωνικής πρόνοιας. Δεν μπορούμε να συνεχίσουμε έτσι».

Reform or lose us as member, Osborne tells EU
(Reuters) - Britain told its European Union partners on Wednesday the EU's treaties were "not fit for purpose" and there must be reform or it would quit the bloc.

London Chancellor Osborne: Reform EU or Face UK Exit ....
ReplyDeleteThe UK could be forced to quit the European Union if the organisation does not reform, George Osborne has warned, as cited by BBC.
The chancellor said it was essential to "protect the collective interests of non-eurozone member states" while the rest of the EU forged stronger links.
Without such reform, the UK might "face a choice between joining the euro or leaving" the EU, he said.
The 28-member group also had to do more to ensure economic competitiveness with rivals like India and China, he added.
Osborne's speech followed the Conservative leadership rejecting a call from 95 of the party's MPs to allow Parliament to block EU laws which damage the national interest
Earlier this week Foreign Secretary William Hague said the EU's rules had to be followed by all its members and the MPs' veto plan was unworkable.
But addressing the think tank Open Europe and the Fresh Start group of MPs, set up by Conservatives keen to see reform, Osborne said he understood the need for change, especially given further economic and political integration by EU countries within the eurozone, aimed at preventing a repeat of the recent crisis.
He warned: "If you cannot protect the collective interests of non-eurozone member states, then they will have to choose between joining the eurozone, which the UK will not do, or leave the European Union."
He also said: "I believe it is in no-one's interests for Britain to come to face a choice between joining the euro or leaving the European Union.
"We don't want to join the euro, but also our withdrawal from a Europe which succeeded in reforming would be bad for Britain. And a country of the size and global reach of Britain leaving would be very bad for the European Union."
The Conservative Party has promised an in-out referendum on EU membership - following a renegotiation of powers with Brussels - before the end of 2017, if it wins a majority at the next general election.
Osborne said: "The biggest economic risk facing Europe doesn't come from those who want reform and renegotiation.
"It comes from a failure to reform and renegotiate. It is the status quo which condemns the people of Europe to an ongoing economic crisis and continuing decline."
Osborne argued there was a "simple choice for Europe: reform or decline".
He said: "There are those who throw their hands up and say 'We can't reform Europe'. To them, I would say that we have already proved that wrong.
"Take the EU budget. Last year, the prime minister negotiated the first ever real-terms cut... ReplyDeleteΟ υπουργός Οικονομικών της Μεγάλης Βρετανίας Τζορτζ Όσμπορν απείλησε με έξοδο της χώρας από την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση, αν οι Βρυξέλλες δεν προβούν σε μεταρρυθμίσεις.
«Η ηγεσία της ΕΕ πρέπει να προχωρήσει επειγόντως σε οικονομικές μεταρρυθμίσεις», - δήλωσε ο υπουργός, μιλώντας σε διάσκεψη στο Λονδίνο χθες Τετάρτη. – «Η Ευρώπη είναι αντιμέτωπη με την απλή επιλογή: είτε μεταρρυθμίσεις, είτε το τέλος της ύπαρξής της. Ρίσκο για την ΕΕ αποτελούν όχι οι υποστηριχτές των μεταρρυθμίσεων, αλλά εκείνοι που δεν τις θέλουν».
Πολλοί εμπειρογνώμονες αξιολογούν την επίκριση της ΕΕ, που διατυπώθηκε στην ομιλία του Υπουργού Οικονομικών, ως προσπάθεια ενίσχυσης της δημοτικότητας των συντηρητικών ενόψει των εκλογών του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου του Μαΐου.

ReplyDeleteWie sieht die Zukunft Europas aus? Die Konferenz „Open Europe“ in London wollte eigentlich ein offenes Forum für europäische Reformen bieten. Doch stattdessen gab es nur eine politische Schlagrichtung.
LondonSie nennen sich „Thatcherites“ und wollen zwei Drittel des EU-Budgets streichen, von rund 130 auf 40 Milliarden Euro. Von den Agrarsubventionen bleiben am Ende nur drei Prozent übrig, die Verwaltungskosten und Strukturförderfonds werden drastisch gekürzt – auf rund 20 Milliarden Euro, hauptsächlich für Forschung und Entwicklung. Es ist nur ein Planspiel, aber die Teilnehmer der Gruppe meinen es ernst.
Der Think Tank Open Europe hatte zur „Pan-European Conference for EU Reform“ nach London eingeladen, mitten in Westminster, nur ein paar Minuten zu Fuß vom britischen Parlament entfernt. Die Einführungsrede hielt der Schatzkanzler (Finanzminister) von Großbritannien, George Osborne; Gäste waren Politiker, Wissenschaftler, Unternehmer, Bürokraten, Diplomaten, Banker, Berater und Journalisten aus allen EU-Ländern, vor allem aber aus England. Die meisten Referenten waren Mitglied in konservativen Parteien oder stehen ihnen nahe.
„Die Konferenz ist offen für alle, wir haben auch bei der Labour Party und anderen Parteien angefragt“, sagt Nina Schick, Politik-Analystin von Open Europe. „Aber keiner ist gekommen.“ Ihrer Ansicht nach liegt es daran, dass gerade in Großbritannien nur die konservativen Torys echte Europa-Politik betreiben.
