Turkey's EU min. urges progress in Turkish-Greek relations

"Our greatest wish is for thriving Turkey-Greece relations," says Turkey's EU Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu

ATHENS
Turkey's EU Minister urges for progression in Turkey and Greece relations Friday in Athens.
Mevlut Cavusoglu stressed the importance of dialogue between the two countries after his meeting with Greek Parliament Speaker Evangelos Meimarakis in Athens on the sidelines of the EU foreign ministers informal meeting,  and said "Our greatest wish is for the thriving of Turkey-Greece relations."

EU foreign ministers gathered in Athens Friday for a two-day informal meeting to discuss regional developments; mainly the Syria and Ukraine crisis.
Cavusoglu expressed gratitude to Greece for its support to Turkey's EU accession and acknowledged that Greece has other priorities to deal with other than Turkey's accession during its rotating six-month EU presidency.
Meimarakis said he was "hosting Cavusoglu as a friend." and added, "We prove here with this meeting that both countries, despite having some disputes, can hold talks in a democratic way."
Greece and Turkey have had disputes over territorial waters, airspace in the Aegean Sea, and the 40-year-old Cyprus dispute between the Turkish and Greek Cypriots.
