BEIJING, July 15, Kyodo. - China on Tuesday rejected a call by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo
Abe for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of a
regional meeting in Beijing in November, snubbing the Japanese leader
for the second time in two weeks.
"The Chinese side has already repeatedly made clear its position on contact between the leaders of China and Japan.
The Japanese side should take practical actions and make great efforts to remove the political obstacles to development of relations between the two countries," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said.
Abe called for a summit with Xi on Monday during remarks to a Diet committee, suggesting that the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Beijing in November would present a good opportunity for the two leaders to meet.

Abe makes fresh call for Japan-China summit...
ReplyDeleteNEW YORK — Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Thursday renewed his call to hold a summit with China, urging both Beijing and Tokyo to make “quiet efforts” to ease tensions between the two Asian giants.
Speaking to a news conference in New York, Abe said he hoped to hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in November on the sidelines of this year’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Beijing.
“Because we have issues, we have to have dialogue without any precondition,” said Abe, who visited New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
“I thinks it’s good to hold a Japan-China summit when I visit Beijing for APEC,” he said. “For the goal, the two countries need to continue making quiet efforts.”
